Well, I have virtually decided that I will be keeping my viewsonic vp912b and returning the dell 2405fpw.

I REALLY wanted to keep the dell becuase the colors were great, it was widescreen, the price was awesome, the black levels were excellent and the backlighting was almost pefectly even.

There were two reasons for this result.

1) I know this sounds strange but the screen, for me, is just too big.
2) I was getting eye strain. After using it for some time my eyes would start to hurt. Maybe I was sitting to close (2.5-3 feet) or maybe the screen was too big. I'm really not sure. Turning down the brightness did help but it didn't go away.
3) To run games in its native 1920x1200 is only possible with the best vid cards. I have a bfg 6800 ultra oc and I had to turn down some of the details to run some games at acceptable fps.

The dell really is amazing but for me, it was just not the right fit.

Anyone know a way to return it without getting hit with a 15% restocking fee? Someone told me to mention it was defetive but if I do that, won't they just ship me a new one?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Did you talk to a Rep and ask about the 15% restocking fee ??

Never had to pay a 15% fee for Home division and they both have the same policy.
This is what stated for both:
but a fifteen percent (15%) return fee may be deducted from any refund or credit

It say may

thanx ctrain, I will say I asked and they said no restocking fee.

Chinkgai, thanx for the offer but I like my vp912b and will stick with that for awhile.

Ackmed, out of curiousity, how far are you away from your monitor?

Turn down the brightness and SET the colours properly.

I have a 23" Sony LCD that runs the same resolution.

At first I was like wtf this is SO bright. Once the colours are set and the brightness down it is much better.

I use to get the exact same problems as you also bu not anymore.

He already turned down the brightness and that didn't stop it completley, plus there are two other problems besides that.

I'm starting to think it really might be the distance. Come to think of it, the last time I got a headache watching something was when a movie theater was full and I had to sit close to the front row. Not sure why but I guess if I can't focus on the whole screen at once, I get a headache/eyestrain.

Either way, this monitor is great. For those that don't have this problem, this is THE monitor to get IMHO!

I'm no more more then 2 feet away from mine. I can put my arm out and it touches the screen.

Yeah I had to get use to mine. It may just be that? At first I was like wtf?! Why do I get a headache after surfing on the web for a while. But NOW I don't have any problems. Love the resolution

I don't believe there is a restocking fee if you return under the 21 day satisfaction guarantee deal. As far as the monitor and its size is concerned, there will always be those who believe bigger is better and if they can get their hands on a 30 inch computer monitor they'll do so. Hehe, I remember my first TV was a 24 incher....and I watched it from across the room.

Even though it's not the right fit for you, at least you had positive things to say about it..

Might swap my 2005fpw for it

I got some really bad headaches when I first got my 2005fpw, but I turned the brightness almost all the way down and gave it a week.

You will have lots of problems... Dell doesn't seem to honor warranties unless you are the original buyer and they won't let you transfer the warranty on monitors.

Buy it straight from them and save any return issues in the future.

cbehnken,
Thnx for the info.
I wasnt saving much not buying directly from Dell anyway and the warranty IS important to me. (especially with an LCD)

Dont get it from EBay. Usually on EBay the price is almost close to On-Sale prices at Dell Directly (if U wait for sale times).

Dell just closed a deal on a 2005FPW 20.1 Wide for $472 bout 1 week ago.

They will have some VERY VERY GOOD deals on end of April on Monitors, Printers and Servers (inside tip from the Boss, he deals with Dell EVERYDAY).

I think 20 inch LCD for under 5 bills is very good, actually a steal if U ask me. And that is shipped and all (if U in US).

Just wait til end of April, Dell will have good deal on the 2005 20 inch LCD.
