Nope.. You'd have what Afghanistan was like under the Taliban. Then again, given your political leanings, that just might be utopia for you...

Sure, Lennon was right, in the same classic "if frogs had wings they wouldn't bump their butt each time they jumped" communist-utiopan-fantasy-delusional sense, yes.

Imagine there's no heaven (freakkkkkkkkkkkkk oooooooooooout) It means you have to say goodbye forever.
It's easy if you try (why don't I believe this)
No hell below us ( that's the good news, but bad if you want bad guys to pay)
Above us only sky (sounds ok)
Imagine all the people (That's a lot of fricking people)
Living for today... (to live for today would mean the end of fear and thought, not a volitional proposition)
Imagine there's no countries (OK lets)
It isn't hard to do (Maybe not hard, but who wants 5 billion Californians)
Nothing to kill or die for (No? How about elbow room)
And no religion too (We already did that)
Imagine all the people (ok, but it?s still a lot of fricken people)
Living life in peace... 9Not when they're all in California)

You may say I'm a dreamer (Yea. I'd say that)
But I'm not the only one (Yup there's Moonbeam)
I hope someday you'll join us 9Please take turns)
And the world will be as one (Yea)

Imagine no possession (Now you're pushing a good thing)
I wonder if you can (I'll bet you do, especially with your millions)
No need for greed or hunger (When now or later when we don't have any money for food)
A brotherhood of man (eaters)
Imagine all the people (I'm getting tired of that one)
Sharing all the world... (Me terra es Su terra)

You may say I'm a dreamer (I did)
But I'm not the only one (I'm still here)
I hope someday you'll join us (I hope someday you'll join us)
And the world will live as one (And the world will live as one)

Humanity is asleep living in a wrong world. The people who could successfully inhabit have not evolved in sufficient numbers to make it possible. Long before we enter paradise, we will have to become fit to deserve it. It will require a planet wide awakening and massive effort to evolve our consciousness. Where will the pressure come from to impel this evolution. Perhaps near total destruction by nuclear war, biological war, nanobot war or environmental catastrophe, I don't know. Whatever or whenever such a cause might arise, it will mean that we will have to learn how to feel. There are going to be some really freaked out people when that happens.

Is Timothy Leary going to fly down from the heavens in a chariot of fire and take us to this utopia? You can count me out. The very idea of a utopia, like the idea of communism, is severely flawed. I'd rather have individuality than ecstacy.

he's not talking about a communist utopian fantasy. he's telling mankind to think for himself individually. he's saying people should break down the boundaries that divide us. there's a possiblity of peace if we don't let ourself kill others in the name of patriotism, nationalism or religion. it's really a simple song, but its meaning still resonates.

Is seems to be part of human nature to hate or fear what is different. If we can't hate each other on the basis of race or religion we will find criteria.

Of course he is, whether or not Lennon was ever sober long enough to realize it.

No private possessions, no religion, and the 'communal' society are hallmark aims of the communist ideology.

Heh, you say 'tomahto', I say 'tomaeto'...a rose by any other name...if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...you get the idea (or maybe you really don't).

Jello, I got a hunch you don't know what you're talking about (have no real personal experience) but in an effort to be fair I'l play along. You say you'd rather have individuality than ecstacy. I hear this much like you said I'd rather wash dishes than have sex. Can you please describe for me your experiences with each.

Lennon WAS right, Mick Jagger is over 60 and "trotting around the stage, shaking his flabby old a$$ and people are stupid enough to pay $300 a ticket!" << from his 1980 Rolling Stone interview.

you're missing the point, the song's not to be taken literally.

Well I know that Lennon is not to be taken literally (or seriously for that matter), but apparently some people do.
