I went to fry's and it's a Roper Brand, made by whirlpool.
Are roper brand washers & dryers and good?

I have a Roper frig that I've had for about 10 years now, maybe more. Not one single problem with it. Think of Roper like you would with cars. Whirlpool is like Lexus while Roper is Toyota. Or Whirlpool is Toyota while Roper is Scion. Something like that. You get the point.

I have this set, the dryer is good, drys stuff pretty fast. The washer is OK, there's just 2 settings, we use the extra large setting, as the small is basically useless. You have to be carefull and not fill it up too much, we usually go about half load or less and balance it, as this thing gets out of balance pretty easily. But for the money, it's not bad, beats having to go somewhere else to do your laundry.

Some Roper products are good. However, be careful on their laundry. Their low cost stuff is so-so. They even had a set a few years ago that you could only get hot and cold water only. no warm water.

As long as it has the features you need and want on it, go for it. However, you do get what you pay for. If their extended warranties aren't too pricey, consider getting one.

BTW I have sold appliances for 5+ years, so I am not totally blowing this out of my @ss

As a side note, I hated selling the Roper "landlord specials" because I only made $1.00 in commission for each set I sold

I also sold appliances for a couple of years. While Roper washers and dryers are not the worst, they are close to it. I highly recommend getting the extended warranty if available. I prefer Whirlpool myself for cheaper washers and dryers and LG front loaders on the high end.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but i think Roper apliances are made by Whirlpool.

Consumer Reports rates Roper almost last in every category of appliance... just so you know. Still a good deal, but deffinitely not "high end" stuff.

My house was remodeled on the cheap by the prevoius owner, and I've got a roper dishwasher and possibly a roper fridge (don't remember offhand) ... no complaints, you get what you pay for but if you're only paying $350 it's not bad.

PS: Especially with washers and dryers you can get killer deals on used or lightly used ones in the paper. I paid $450 for a *never used* set where the cheapest I could find it at a retailer was about $825. It seems like there is a washer/dryer conflict every time somebody moves or buys/sells a house etc, people always have some to get rid of.

well.. I went for it. Got the pair + 5yr warranty on the washer($69)

I cant beleive they wanted to sell me the 3-prong cord for the dryer for $25... I know where i can get it for $5

Home Depot sells a 3-prong dryer cord for around $15.00. I don't think you are going to find one for any lower.

Make sure you balance the units. I mean, use a level and make sure they are level on the floor(if the feet are adjustable), that reduces the ungodly noise the cheaper models make.
