this one. the best part of this watch... found it walking on the beach when the sun was rising. sent it in to swiss army, and they replaced some of the scratched parts for $60 to make it look brand spankin' new. imagine my shock when i went to the web site and saw what it was worth.

on a side not, i love wearing my watch. if i forget to wear it, i feel like something is missing. ive worn them for awhile now. the watch has taken a pretty good beating lately, looks like time to send back to swiss army for another touch up. im happy swiss army still carries the same brand and model and design.

I have this plain ol' digital walmart one that I love, but my family thought it was too cheesy to wear to work, so I have gotten a flood of watches over the last year. Here is the collection:

A silver Kenneth Cole w/ gold accents with a cool curved face
A dark gunmetal looking Guess w/ dulled gold face that is very delicate and girly for dress up occasions**
A silver w/ blue face gucci
An all silver Anne Klein

and the trusty Walmart one.

** I have to have the dressy one, because I HAVE TO WEAR A WATCH ALL THE TIME!!!! I feel nekked without it.

Swiss Army Lancer 100 - stainless steel with a black face. It's a rock solid watch. Battery lasts exactly 3 years on the money. I've owned it for about 7 years. I can get a battery replacement and a pressure test for $20 in Minneapolis...a great deal for anyone with a screw back watch (the kind that require that special tool).

Who cares - the only males that really give a flip about this stuff (clothes, jewelry, etc.) are, well need I say it... Yup, either that or raised in a feminized environment.

My dress watch is an A. Lange & Sohne "1815 Aub/Auf" . 18k Rosegold with power reserve indicator, croc straps, display back.
Cost is about $11-12k. It is made in Glashutte, Germany. I only wear it on special occassions. Very simple yet elegant watch IMHO.

My everyday watch is an IWC (International Watch Co.) GST Auto Chrono. Self winding, stainless steel with a few gold trimmings, day and date.
A rather big, thick watch which could take quite a beating. Made in Shaffhausen, Switzerland.
Cost is around $4k

I love watches and you can see them on the link below.

beeper, and nextel phone,Both courtesy of work,
they both keep very good time
I have worn a wrist watch,probably only 30 times in 20 years,
i used to carry one in my pocket,i kept catching the band on stuff,and breaking them;
or when i would work on my car,i would take it off,so as not to get it caught, like on the battery, and get my arm "fried".
LOL

But it doesn't help you any more than get to meeting on time like any other watches.
It sounds like way too much form over function. And, not only that pricing what you put on doesn't make you any more classy than a woman that fight over a sales bin at Kmart.

Lowtech,

A lot of things people purchase is a matter of preference and taste. Buying a watch is mostly like buying any other product out there, be it cars or shoes. When you say a watch is a watch and it does not help me any more than get to a meeting on time, is much like saying 'a shoe is a shoe' or a 'car is a car' and they do the same thing. However, people are sometimes willing to spend more on a type of product with better features/performance/name etc. I mean you can go and buy a pair of $5 sneakers and be happy with it, but people are willing to spend more for other brands like Nike/Adiddas etc. Same with cars, you can buy a cheap Yugo but some people prefer to spend more on a different car DEPENDING on their taste and what the car is going to be used for. You see VALUE is a very subjective matter, as is FORM and FUnction. SOme people prefer one over the other and they are willing to pay a premium for it. It boils down to one essential thing, if you are HAPPY with your purchase (whether it is a $5 no name shoe or a 200$ Nike) then it means that you percieve the purchase as a 'good value' because you were willing to shell out the cost.

Also, the reason why i put the approximate cost of the timepieces that i wear is simple: Some people who read these threads are watch enthusiasts like me. The price is put there because someone might be interested in them and might want to know how much these things cost offhand and it would be easier if they knew if the watches are within budget if they are interested in it. A lot of folks over here posted some really good watches and since i was in the market for another watch, I had to do extra searches for approximate pricing for the watches i was interested in. I put my info/pricing in to save a little time and effort for those who are interested in them. If you aren't interested in them, move on. No need to compare me to a woman fighting for sales at Kmart.
