Been using Nero Platinum for years without any problems. Recently decided to build a Ryzen box to replace an older AMD rig. Installed Nero, get to home screen of program and all hell breaks loose. Title page of DVD displays fine but after that artifacts galore. Tried a trial version of Nero 17, same result. Trial versions of Power DVD and WinDVD yield the same result. Latest version of VLC works perfectly. Getting up there in age and haven't played games in a while but could it be my new video card or Ryzen combo? Gigabyte AX-370 Gaming K5 mb 16mb ram paired with an Nvidia GTX 1050-Ti graphics card. The old unit, which works perfectly, has an AMD FX 8320 CPU w an R7-270 (?) video card. Any help appreciated.

I have VLC installed and it works perfectly for me. Just wanted to know why the other programs all gave me the same problem. Is it video card related, Win10, or something else?

Running the latest version of Win10 Pro. I've never installed any video codecs(that I know of) on any rig I've built going back to Win 3.1 and Windows for Workgroups. I just use what the operating system and the graphics card provide.Heck, I'm still playing Age of Empires 2 as I approach my 70th b'day.

there are numerous codecs that can help play videos properly. VLC has a bunch built in.

you can try something like K-lite Codec Pack Basic.

https://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

link to Basic: https://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_basic.htm

I use the Basic Pack. The only thing you really need to tell it is how many speakers you have (I use 5.1). You can play your videos in windows media player.

you can also un-install it if it doesn't fix your problem.

Thanks for the heads up on the codecs. Like I said VLC works for me. What I'm trying to understand is why my older rig, a Win 7-Win 10 upgrade can run Nero 16 Platinum without any hiccups but a clean install of Win 10 can't. Maybe it's just missing codecs in Win 10, or a graphics acceleration setting on my video card that I have to adjust. Chalk it up to curiosity I guess but I used to be able to figure out the problem. I'm stumped this time

win7 comes with an mpeg2 decoder and win 10 doesn't.

although it's possible there are other things that could be a miss.

Just seems strange to me that the latest version of the three commercial products claim to be Win10 compatible yet none of the trial versions would work for me. Even if the codecs were removed from the operating system wouldn't the three commercial products have to include them in order
to be labeled as Win10 compatible? Even the trial versions IMO. Just wanted to hear from others who probably know more about this than an older forum member who is trying to get to the bottom of my problem.

like I said, there could be something else going on. I would try out the codecs and see if they fix the problem. If they don't then it's time to start investigating other causes.
