wat's the problem

this may sound stupid but i've really been wondering , wat's the problem when a pc hangs very often, isit the hard drive?? the cpu or the mobo???
i need some answers pls

Can be: bad ide/scsi device
bad scsi/ide driver
bad cable/connector
irq conflict
bad memory

You should post your config. It's a shot in the dark

It's very difficult to help if you don't post specs - eg mobo, sound card, memory, OS version etc. If you are having problems always be as specific as possible with what you are running and what the problem is.

Ok, now we're getting somewhere. Now what exactly is it doing. When does it lock up?? Do you get a blue screen?? does the cursor still move?? Have you installed any new apps lately that could be causing the problem??? If so, remove them.

Did you add any hardware, or switch their slot arrangement ever since your received your PC?

Or can you provide more information on your device?
AGP=video card?
PCI 1=?
PCI 2=?
PCI 3=?
Any ISA?

Also make sure you are using the latest drivers.

Also go to the start menu and go to windows update. Download any of the service packs and the critical updates

as i said....... its custom made and i dun have any info on the parts ...but i reckon that
AGP=video card
no ISA
i have directx 7.0
detonater 3
as for the updates im going to do it tonite when i have time

do you run scan disk and defrag very often?

sounds like you might have possible corrupt file....does it happen with a particular game or all games...other applications cause this lock up?

i do scandisk often & i defrag everytime it starts to freeze.....but this time it didn't work!!

saying that it fails to detect an updated version of that driver
