Hmmm... Why is the Lens there??


I know one thing that its not so you can make sure its running ...


This is the loudest drive I got RaptorX 1500rpm.

The Maxtor 7200's I have are ALOT more quiet like 6 times more quiet.


Anyone else have this drive? Have the same problem?

Could a Bad hard drive cause unstable programs that are very Hard drive Dependant?

Nobody has RaptorX running @ 1500rpm.

Mine is very loud too. If I were to buy a Raptor again I would probably just get the regular 150GB. I read somewhere that the Raptor X is slightly slightly SLIGHTLY faster than the regular 150GB, though I'm not sure it's true or not. By slightly I mean like ~0.1 ms difference on the seek times. Again I don't know if it's true.

The Raptor X also has a higher MTBF rate. But it's still something like 0.06% (chance of failure per year) or something like that compared to 0.0012%.

Anyways, either way, a fraction of a % is a pretty low chance of failure no matter how you slice it. Plus they both have a 5 year warranty so if it does die in the warranty period you get a brand new one anyway.

I keep hearing about new Raptor's coming out next spring. Don't know if it's true but if it is I would definitely be interested. I love how fast and snappy a Raptor can make a system. I can only imagine what a newer, up to date model would be like.
