WD SATA 250gb w/ XPpro

Installed a sata 250gb drive (as storage) about a week ago.Used the Wd tools that came with it to activate the drive. It is there and usable when I start the system but after a short time it goes away.
When this happens I can still can use the programs on my prime drive but if I try to open "My Computer" nothing is there and windows explore locks up.
I also have a drive loaded with vista RC1 on the same system and if I use that I have no problem with the SATA drive.It can sit there all day,go in and out of stand-by and it's fine.
I've installed the latest drivers for my Epox 9npa+sli.
Any ideas on fixing this?

This is a SATA driver issue install the sata drivers that came with your motherboard and that should help. you may need to do a Repair install to do this, simply use the floppy that came with your mainboard.

Hi MAv,thanks for the reply.
I thought the drivers that you load off the floppy were to enable the raid function?
Do I need to have raid turned on in the bios for a single sata drive?
Maybe I should enable raid and connect to the si3132 header just to test it out-what do ya think?
Just a side note but I didn't load any MB drivers on the Vista install and it works fine there. Chalk one up for vista I guess.

Hmm.. that is very odd, sorry for the long delay I've been busy with getting things in vista RC1 going right. Best thing for you to do is just install the drivers. Vista is a completely new beast with all new quirks that need to be figured out. and not always. the drivers on the floppy are also for enabling the drive in vista. you'll probably need to do a repair install anyways especially if you have info you don't want to loose. I'm typing on my 400gb 16mb cache WD with XP home on it now. windows VISTA is one awesome beast it takes up like 10 gigs of space for the ultimate version! If you wish you may contact me via WLM using Maverick_58@hotmail.com we can see what we can do from there if needed. also it might be worth it to flash the bios to the newest version, and make sure you definitly have the settings correct in the bios too, not sure as to what bios you have since I am not familiar with the Epox brand and honestly don't trust them because of their previous track record. I've had the best luck with DFI and MSI as well as 2 different asus boards in 2 builds for my dad, had a really bad string of some stuff from FRY'S and recently returned some stuff to them when I was over there because they sold my father some bad parts to begin with. great exchange policy though LOL he ended up with a 4400 dualcore amd processor and an asus mainboard there too.
