What are they for then?

Why does the front page of their web site have the phrase "We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%."

Seems that they are against the rich since the 1% is certainly meant to be the 1% wealthiest people in the country.

And there is insane irony in them bitching about the greed of the 1% and then turning around and claiming the solution is for things to be given to them for free.

So you are splitting hairs again would you be more satisfied if they added some decimal places? lulz 99.999% vs .001%

Spidey, are you one of the 20% who believe they are one of the 1%?

so its all or nothing then? They have to fit one extremist view or another? I suppose that would suit your confirmation bias nicely.

My point is that the occupy fools are a bunch of idiotic hypocrites who are against the greed of the rich, unless it some how helps them out.

They love Steve Jobs for everything he created and what those creations have done for them, but they hate the system that allowed Jobs to be successful in the first place.

It is idiocy.

Only if you assume those people that want the opposite of what we have today.

I know it's hard for the extreme partisans on this board to understand, but a lot of people want incrementalism, not revolution. The problem is that today's politicians aren't offering that.

In 1990, when the average CEO to worker pay ratio was 40% of what is is now, would Jobs not have been successful? How about in 1980, when it was less than 20%?

They are the useful idiots, tools of the marxist. While the 53% are the working, tax paying, real Americans paying for the hippie bums.

Anybody know anybody who either is a hippie or calls themselves a hippie since, oh the late 60's/early seventies.

You sound like a silly Archie Bunker.

Actually I have some of the world's most annoying hippies in my family, including my 58-year-old, Harvard-educated aunt and her 28-year-old daughter, who is, today, "occupying" our county's government center, to her mother's delight. I don't know what else to call their distinctive brand of shiftless, underemployed white people with dreadlocks and a greater fondness for Cornel West than anyone they personally know.

you're one of the 53% until you become one of the 99%, and then the 53% will make fun of your situation too.

incremental-ism to what goal?

The protesters are against capitalism. Off course they want the opposite of what they have today. Why else would they be protesting?

People claiming otherwise are in denial. Labeling the other side 'extreme' or 'stupid sheep working for the man'. Isn't helping your case

And my point was that the Tea Party and the Republicans that garner support from them are also a bunch of idiotic hypocrites, who are against the government from helping needy people out, unless the government is the one helping them.

They love what the government does for them and the benefits it provides to them, but they hate the government that provides those benefits to all that might need them.

It is idiocy.

We could go back and forth like this all day.

I would be angry too if I was one of the 53%ers on that website. Working their ass off with so little to show for it.

I'm a liberal that works hard and pays quite a bit in taxes. And somehow I manage to do so without whining about it all the time...

I started a whole thread about their demands.

Eliminating debt is the equivalent of getting something for free because they want all the stuff they have borrowed for to be given to them.

"Living wage for everyone" is also getting something for free. Most of us earn what we are worth, but they want everyone to be paid $20 an hour regardless of the job because in their world it is 'fair.'

Free education.

Universal single payer healthcare system aka free healthcare.

The movement is populated by a bunch of losers who can't succeed on their own so they want government to hand them success.

I didn't see that thread... maybe you'll link it, and maybe it'll have some actual sources...

Here is the list from the thread.
http://occupywallst.org/forum/proposed-list-of-demands-for-occupy-wall-st-moveme/
That was user submitted and is not an official list, but it shows the mindset of many in the movement.

Here is a story about an attempt to come up with a new list of demands.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog...-occupy-wall-street-protesters-post-manifest/

The group does not have an official list of demands and apparently does not even want to come up with a list. They seem to think that protesting just to protest is better than coming up with a list of demands that people can look at and respond too.

So my immodest proposal is simply this: Individuals and households in the bottom 99 percent who owe debt to any large financial institution that received federal government support during and after the 2008 crisis should see their debt forgiven. That would certainly stimulate the economy, as most people would suddenly find themselves with a great deal more money to spend on iPads (and food, and clothing, and housing, and healthcare). The debt can be forgiven by decree or if the government really wants to it can step in to pay it itself; I don’t much care either way. (Though it’d be nice to see it just wiped off the books, to enrage the banks.)
Love the priorities. Eliminate our debt so we can buy iPads...

What about people who are debt free? Do they get screwed for being able to balance their budget?
