I was designing a personal website. I started on Wordpress which is very easy to use. The format and layout is intuitive and within a couple days I built a solid personal website.

The question I have comes out of the wordpress and other company online addresses(URL) www.gamerguy2.wordpress.com.

I decided that if I have a more serious website with career information and links to say an ebay store, that I do not want the .wordpress.com in the URL. Also, I am not interested in setting the website parameters through notepad.

So what I am looking for is a free or inexpensive program that I can design a website on my computer and then upload it to a subscription service without having the design site (.wordpress) in the online address (URL).

Can someone make some recommendations? Like described what is needed is a free or purchased program for offline website design and development.

I was thinking of purchasing this http://e.informer.com/wysiwygwebbuilder.com/ . It looks like it will take care of short term needs and long term. It looks fairly complex so any suggestions are helpful. A program that is easy to use but with many options. So starting with a program that is like wordpress but with complex options and integrated features is better for my level of experience.

For the pictures and hobby information to be linked to google and other search engines is there a specific feature that is needed? I understand the concept of html but not the implementation.

My buddy swears by WYSIWYG. It's a simple drag and drop program. "What you see is what you get".

It's not free but it does a lot for $49.00. I've watched him use it and it's probably the only way i could design a website lol.

You can still use wordpress and use a custom url https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

So if you like wordpress, you can keep using it.

Seems like your best bet OP, unless you want to rent Dreamweaver CC from Adobe for $20/mo.

I'm trying to design a website for someone next week, was looking at sites like Wix, Web.com, Site123 and so forth as they have templates set up, all you have to do is drag and drop. Problem is they do not allow you to download the html code and the site is hosted on their end forever, you can only use a redirector to redirect mysite.wix.com to your own domain. Have used Incomedia Website X5 but they lack quality responsive templates and the software is clumsy and crashes often. Will look into WYSIWYG Web Builder. There seem to be very few choices of windows software to design websites on your own pc, the trend seems to be these online website design companies with little to no support.

As long as implementing html easily is in the program. I may buy that. Can you tell me if you need any special knowledge to implement it or if it is easily explained in the program? Thanks for the replies.
