Website question

Hi, all! I'm redesigning my mom's site (click here to see the current design), and I need some help. I've drawed it simply, so beware . Example: When the mouse is not not "Thing 1", "Thing 2" or "Thing 3", it should look like this. When the user would put his or her mouse on "Thing 1", they should be able to click "Sub-Thing 1" or "Sub-Thing 2", as seen in this example. When the users would put his or her mouse on "Sub-Thing 1" or "Sub-Thing 2", it should also light up (as "Thing 1" did).

How do I do this?

EDIT: When the mouse has been on "Thing 1", "Thing 2" or "Thing 3", the links that belong with the respective article should remain clickable until another one (so instead of "Thing 1", "Thing 2" or "Thing 3") is selected.

I have Photoshop, Imageready, Coffeeshop (HTML Editor), Flash MX and Dreamweaver, so the program shouldn't be a problem . If it's an other program that's needed, I'll be happy to purchase (since I'm not the one paying ).

You would have to create some javascript to do that. search google for javascript DHTML menus.

Download the trial version of Fireworks from Macromedia.com. If I recall correctly, it has a feature that will take all of the skill out of this and export the HTML complete with behaviors and proper image references, which you can then FTP to your mom's server.

As an aside, I've been a developer for almost 10 years, and I've never once uttered the phrase "your mom's server" before.

It's not my mom's server, it's my server with her website on it . Thanks for the reply, will try it out.

yes, fireworks is the way to do this. i have used ps/ir for years, but use fireworks for exactly as what you are wanting to do. makes it very easy
