weird cdrom problem

Hi yesterday a friend had come over to install some new games to my computer and when doing this he told me we had to make copys of the cd if i wanted to play them well i had to unplug my pioneer dvdrom drive and reconnect my acer cd burner. i shut down and did this and after i installed nero burning rom, the program made me restart my computer so i restarted my computer when it came back it wouldent detect my cdrom drive. now the problem im having is that i try reinstalling and uninstalling both drives back and fourth and no matter what i get this error message in the device manager properties for the drive

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

a friend told me to go into regedit and see whats wrong but i know nothing about registry editing or eaven what to do. the computer detects the drives in BIOS and DOS and i can use it in DOS but when i get into windows xp it wont work. im not sure what to do so any help is appreciated. thnx for you time

i was recently running raid but one of my IBM hardrives craped out so i was only able to plug in one of my cd rom drives cuz the hard drive im currently using is taking up the other IDE port, i was more focused on restoring my backed up data so i didnt start out with my cd burner, my burner is a 8x4x32, now i cant use them both.

Go to the device mamager and remove the controller that the cd/dvd is hooked to. reboot and let it find it again. Do you have all the service patches installed?

ive done that over and over all i get is that error code 19 about the registry and yah i have all sp installed.

Remove the software that he used to copy the games with. Or did he use Nero or some such? What are your system specs? Try updating the chipset drivers for your mb.

If you are trying to use the cdr/dvd on a raid controller the odds are you won't be able to do it without problems. I have heard of some people doing it, but I have also heard it doesn't work.

AMD 1600+266 athlon 1.4 ghz
512meg ddr ram
radeon 7500
soundblaster xgamer
pioneer slot load dvdrom drive
acer 8x4832x cdrw drive
and i was running raid with 2 7200rpm 40 gig IBM hard drives

one of my harddrives just recently craped out on me so i had to use the IDE slot where my cdrw drive was at everything worked find until after i installed NERO burning rom to burn the cds. will the raid ports for my SOYO work as IDE slots also?

Yes, they will work as ide ports. Make sure raid is turned ON though.

ive got them turned off for raid on the jumer settings will i be able to use them for my cd drives? sorry im still a newb at computer so i dont know too much.
