weird html question

is there some way to take a text file and have it automatically rendered as a html page? i've seen some code to make a box appear that shows the contents of a text file in that box, but i want some type of html (or java?) code that can simply refer to a text file and then have that text file's contents shown as html. nothing fancy with formatting or anything is needed.

i hope i explained this right.

hmm, actually i think you can just link to any file.txt and the browser will display it correctly. what do you mean by render?

yeah, basically instead of having to link it i want the contents of the text file to be automatically loaded onto the html file. i found something that does this sorta: http://www.coe.tamu.edu/~strader/java/animation/SimpleText/simpletext.html

see, you point it to a text fiela nd it'll display it on the screen, but i do not know how to change the color of the text and the color of the background in that java applet, which i guess i would like to do also. is it possible? i think php can do what i want, but the server i use doesnt appear to support php.

get one of those txt3html convertors, cant remember one of the top of my head now, but there are a bunch of them just search google.

do you mean a standalone program? i do not want to use those. like i said, i need to have the contents of a text file displayed in an html file. not convert a text file to html. anyway, i think i have to learn some java so i can just write my own applet.

I'm not quite sure what you are thinking of but you can include files into html using SSI includes (if your server supports them).

So if you want to include textfile.txt into your html, insert this SSI tag <!--#include file=&quot;textfile.txt&quot; -->
