Weird Keyboard Problem

Hey this friend of mine has this computer with the weirdest keyboard problem. All of a sudden one day when he started up his computer and got to the logon screen for windows he wasnt able to type in his password. When he hit a button on his keyboard the screen sort of flashes and does nothing unless he holds down the key for a few seconds then the letter will finally appear. It continues to do the same problem in windows. He has a logitech cordless keyboard and mouse. We changed the batteries, reinstalled it, reconnected it, switched usb ports and it still doesnt work. So maybe the keyboard is bad? Nope, even if you plug in a normal ps/2 keyboard and start up windows you get the same problem. His mouse works fine but it is just the keyboard or any keyboard you stick on the computer. Anyone have any idea how to fix this or what?

i also tried reinstalling windows and even in the install of windows it acts up. then it gives me comm port errors.

It sounds to me like the keyboard PS/2 port is bad since a regular keyboard will not work correctly. The only option left would be using a USB keyboard aside from replacing the mainboard. You may want to check the port for debris first, though. Visually inspect it and maybe blow some air in it just for good measure.

I believe the logitech wireless setup uses the USB ports already.

Doesn't fix your problem, just curious, what Logitech model is it? Has the system been scanned for viruses/malware? When you reinstalled windows, did you choose to format the C drive?
