Weird memory death...

So I shut down my system to add a Hitachi 1TB drive and another LiteOn DVD-Burner. When I boot back up I get a C1 memory error on my Abit IP35 Pro. I'm like this is weird, I didn't even touch the memory. I shut down, unplug the new hard drive and burner and boot back up and it still was giving the C1 error. So after playing musical memory slots and a couple of CMOS resets I get one pair to work while the hard drive is unplugged and the burner is plugged. Then I plug the hard drive back in and start getting the C1 memory error. So finally I get one stick working with the new hard drive plugged in. I have 4GB (1GB x 4) DDR2-800 Crucial Ballistix Tracers (not the regular Tracer but the Newegg Lanfest editions) They've run flawlessly since Nov of 07. I've only had them running at DDR2-667 since my Q6600 was OC'ed at 3Ghz and I had a 1:1 ratio set. It seems like adding the new hard drive made the memory fry but that doesn't make much sense to me. I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience?

I'm also gonna go ahead buy a 4GB kit kit before I RMA the Ballistix. I've been thinking about getting these OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) Reaper HPC Edition since I can get them local. I know peeps have had issues with OCZ but I really like the heat pipes on these Reapers. The others I was looking at were these G.SKILL PI Black 4GB (2 x 2GB)

Any suggestions?

Forget about the deep rebated OCZ kits and stick with the PI Black.

I have to throw in here: the OP had the same "LanFest" Crucial (Tracers) that I have. I only had 2GB 2-stick kits: I bought two of them about the same time Twinkdogg picked up his.

During 2007, the Crucial RAMs were "the Cat's Meow," the warranty "insurance" seemed reliable, but frustration seemed to multiply when people reported volting them within spec, while the memory seemed to defy the "infant mortality" rule and blink out after several months.

It happened to me during December, 2008. A year earlier, I'd replaced a set of blinked-out, RMA'd Ballistix with one of the two Tracer/LanFest kits I bought in '07. I had the spare kit, so it was less of an inconvenience. But I'm beginning to suspect that the replacement kit may have a similar short life-span. Geez. I'm only running them at spec voltage of 2.10, DDR=835 and 4,4,4,12,2T.

GO WITH THE G.SKILL 2x2GB "PI" black modules.

Buy the G.Skill PI Black kit.

Thanks for chiming in all. I'm probably going to go ahead and order the G.Skill kit then. I do like the lower stock voltage of the G.Skill kit but I was wanting to gamble on the OCZ Reaper kit due to the rebate and the fact that I can get it local. I think the higher stock voltage is probably part of the reason these Crucial Lanfest Tracers went out. When I was playing musical slots I noticed the RAM getting VERY hot to touch as I took it out. I was thinking that on those OCZ Reaper's though that the nice size HPC would keep them cool at their higher stock voltage where the Crucial Tracer's did not have that. I think I read a few posts online confirming the cool running temps of the OCZ's with the HPC but I wanted to hear your thoughts and opinions. I was also thinking about getting some of these XILENCE Copper RAM Cooler HP DUO but after seeing the similar HPC on the OCZ's and the G.Skill's I figured the extra cosrt would not be worth it.

Spend that money on high quality, high flow, quiet fans.
They will be the better investment for the rest of your components.

BTW, The higher the voltage, the warmer the DIMMs will run.

I already have 5 good fans installed in my case so I'm good there. And yes I do know that higher voltage will cause memory to run hotter. That's why I said this above:
