After a monitor swap my original monitor showed a blue screen. W2k will not reinstall, restore, safe mode, or anything.
All this time, W98 continues to boot fine.
Blue Screen 007B Inaccessible boot device.

Tried a NEW HD and still couldn't load W2k.
Flashed a new bios- X

Noticed that my MX400 was sitting underseated and readjusted it w/power off.
reloaded the graphics drivers
So do I pull the cmos battery next?

A STOP 7B has nothing to do with your monitor or graphics card.

A STOP 7B could be caused by:
-swapping mobo underneath the OS
-changing disk controllers
-updating disk controller drivers
-installing CD burning software
-installing backup software (otman5.sys)
-uninstalling CD burning software
-uninstalling backup software
-installing antivirus software
-uninstalling antivirus software

etc. etc. etc.

Basically any driver that messes with the filesystem/disk stack.

This is going to be your best bet.

Wait... are you getting a STOP 7B when installing an OS?

What's the second number in parentheses?

You may have to find some utility to totally nuke the MBR or low level format the drive.

But this is the same message I got with the old HD!!
W2k gets as far as loading files when it goes blue.
Why should I have a file problem with a new HD?

0xc000014f = status_unrecognized_volume.

Haven't found much documentation on that status code with a STOP 7B. What changes did you make before the problem started?

All I did was swap a monitor that I just picked up. It worked but developed some size problems so
I shut it down. That was when I noticed the card had been pulled. There was no hardware change
in the last two months. I had w2k with all four service packs.
The blue screen was immediate. Ever since that swap there has been blue.
If the 8KHA+ got it's bus trashed wouldn't that shut down w98 too?

On the win2k installation screen, when it asks if you want to inatall other drivers, press F5 or F6 or F7 either one should let you pass the blue screen.

I hit F6 and went to a screen offering other storage schemes like SCSI but I just thought I had
statndard PC which was one of the options! Still same blue screen..........
I guess tomorrow is RAM exchange,,,,,

clear your cmos and try F7 then.

You can also use F5 and use the arrow to scroll up.

F7 will not give you another option screen but will instll 2k without acpi.

I had a similar problem when try to install 2k to a old machine with a non acpi monitor and I fixed it by clearing the cmos and then use one of those F keys.

This might not fix your trouble but it is worth a try before buying new rams.
