This might come out sounding sort of weird, but I'm gonna try to explain it the best I can. First off, here's the specs on the rig:
EPoX 8K7A+
1.4 GHz T-Bird at stock everything
Alpha PAL8045 (the big one) with 36CFM Sunon fan
2 x 256MB Sticks of Crucial PC2100
GeForce 2 GTS (12.90 drivers)
2 x 60GB Western Digital Drives, running RAID 1 (mirroring, I'm paranoid)
Philips Acoustic Edge (1.55 drivers)
Windows 2000 with SP2
Anyway, basically what happens, is every once in a while, the entire system just sort of 'skips'. The mouse stops moving, if I'm typing, letters will stop appearing on the screen, if I'm playing an MP3, it'll stop playing, etc. This lasts about a second, and happens every minute or so. It's extremely annoying, especially when listening to music or trying to play a game. I don't really have any idea of what might be causing it, no device conflicts or anything. Everything should be working fine, and it is, except for this whole system skipping thing. Once I get this resolved, this system will be 100% complete and happy
I took out a bunch of unnecessary startup items, and it's still skipping. I'm monitoring it pretty closely, and what I'm finding is whenever the system skips, my CPU usage immediately jumps up to 100% and my hard drive usage LED turns on. I thought it might be Indexing Service, but that's turned off. I've tried opening up Task Manager, sorting by CPU usage, and then waiting for it to happen, but it doesn't show anything jumping to the top. Soo...driver problem? I dunno.
So, any ideas anyone? Any help at all is appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
J3
