Weird problem

I just installed a new 1 TB HD. I have an old SP1 XP which I installed. Then I d'led and installed SP3. I also installed the "improved" Internet Explorer.

Now, regularly, text from a program (from Explorer, and also from WinDVD) gets "frozen" on the screen and will not go away. Also, frustratingly, it stays on top, making it impossible to watch DVD movies.

The only thing I can think to do is a repair install of XP. I might also fork out the dough for Windows 7 but that would be a lot of work and it might not solve the problem.

Any ideas? I would be very grateful.

Does this happen in "Safe Mode with Networking"?

It does not seem to happen in safe mode.

It does continue to happen when XP starts normally. I loaded more recent video drivers and uninstalled he printer. Still happening.

Sounds like a graphics driver or subsystem glitch.

Give More Info. Mobo Ram cpu psu would be more easy to help.

It's a video driver issue. Continue to play with different versions of the driver to see which one will actually work with your card.
