Shipping was fairly reasonable around $7 for standard ground. No tax for most states.

WD must be getting ready to drop a nice new drive on us or something. This is a pretty smoking deal. $75 off.

Shipping is only $7. This beats the current NewEgg deal, which is hot. (This is even hotter.) However this deal is limited to one drive per cusotmer. Have to find another one somewhere to go RAID.

EDIT Was going to get one, got to the end of checkout, and found out they charge tax. That makes the total for me: $184.53 before rebate. So it's a little better than the NewEgg dealie, but not as much as I first thought.

Drive Comparison Article

Looks like a nice deal, but the drive isn't that much faster than my 36GB Raptor, and when other drive makers come out with competing drives, prices will come down.

In other words, my wife will kick my ass if I buy this drive.

I only ordered one, though a 2nd for raid 0 is so tempting. I would call the toll free number, (866-327-8352) before trying for more than one to be sure they will honor it. I've never had a rebate turned down in that manner but I always mailed mine as seperate requests as they do often get frustrated requesting multiple rebates in 1 submission/envelope.

Also, if I had to guess, I'd think WD is getting ready to drop a Raptor with 16MB cache to beat Maxtor's MaxLine III 7.2k drives from stealing some of their limelight.

Never received any order confirmation or shipment details but mine shipped today via UPS ground after checking the order status on their site.

Also it looks as if they raised the price back to $199.99 now, making the Newegg deal the best offer again. You can check out the thread below or the Newegg link for that deal ($188-$20 rebate and free shipping, no tax to most states). The Newegg deal (rebate) is good till 7-31-04.
