The acting is superb though I'm not overly found of the actress playing Dolores. Something just doesn't "fit" for me with her.

I think she's doing a good job. The only one that's 'off' to me is the boss lady - her american accent is a mess.

Is ed harris carrying a lemat revolver? would be a shame not to see him using the middle shotgun.

Did Paulo from LOST really get killed off in the first episode or is he coming back?

Recycled, I would imagine.

Is one of the basic themes of the show to begin with.

I feel safe posting that as a non spoiler, is how the park operates.

I thought the pilot was actually pretty interesting. I'm always a little wary of new sci-fi shows since most of them are over the top. But in this one there were so many hidden motifs and easter eggs that every time I watch it (already 3 times now), I discover something else new. I made a list of a bunch of the interesting things about the show on the Westworld community here: link deleted

Drako's hyphenated 1st ep review:

Over hyped but could be good. It's HBO ...

I really liked it. Also loved the music, Black Hole Sun and Paint It Black were both arranged very nicely...

I have to admit that I never noticed Black Hole Sun, but I did pick up on Paint It Black after 10 seconds or so of wondering why it sounded so familiar.

PSA, HBO is streaming the 1st episode for free if you don't have a sub.

I like this take on the original, although this seems more like AI evolving rather than a simple disaster flick. Kinda wish they also had the Roman and Medieval theme parks too, but I guess it isnt necessary. What I dont get is why the Hopkins is trying to evolve them so much. Nothing good can come of it.

I would think the more lifelike a robot is, the less likely I would want to treat them like toys. It would ruin the role play.

really, really liked it. but I loved Deadwood too, that was a kick in the nuts the way it 'ended'.

My wife was seriously miffed when they shut Deadwood down, but it had a pretty good run and the majority of the actors moved on to other good roles.

It would have of been hard to push it past the point and made it interesting once the town had an "established" government tie instead of being the Wild West.

It ended where it should have in my mind really.

Roman / medieval sims wouldn't be quite as lawless.

isn't any show with robots kinda predictable ?
Humans too, every show they're just walking around doing stuff and a conflict comes along.

You never see one where 5 minutes in, a bomb goes off and everyone dies, then it's just a nature show for the rest of the season.

Is it just me or was the song playing on the piano Radiohead's No Surprises?

Hm... I still don't like the stuff with the Man in Black. I think the biggest problem is that there are absolutely no stakes for him at all. At least at this point, since he's a real person, none of the hosts can hurt him. I did like that we got to see more of the inner workings of the park. The whole world building aspect is usually the most interesting part for me in something like this.

What I think is that he is going to be part (a large part) of the reason things go bad. He is sadistic, and even he comments that it isn't as fun because there are really no stakes. Once things start to turn, I feel like he is going to be more enthused about it and up his ante as well. And, obviously, that is only going to exacerbate things.

I noticed Ed Harris empties the spent casings from his revolver after shooting the men at the gallows, then does it again when he's sitting at the table with the condemned man and his family.

Was there another scene where he did some more shooting we didn't see?

It was kind of asked here earlier. I must have missed it if was shown, but what prevents a guest from killing another guest?
