My latest proposed rig, based on comments from here. What do you think?

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3400+ with 512k L2 cache (Newcastle core) ($289)
Replacement CPU Heatsink and Fan: Zalman Ultra Quiet CPU Cooler CNPS7000-AlCu ($40)

RAM: Corsair CMX512-3200C2 (2x512k) ($236)

dont get the 5900, get a 9800 if you video card budget is under $200.

i would highly suggest getting a 6800 or 6800GT

also...SATA2? i would get a segate 250gb sata1 drive. your not going to be able to take advantage of the speed increase sata2 offers because the epox/nf3250gb only has sata1 drive controllers.

for the dvd burners iv always been a fan of plextors. sony drives arnt that good, not when other companys offer more for the same price or less.

and maybe not spend so much on a 3400+, but get a 3000-3200 and overclock, should be able to hit 3400 speeds.
