What are my options?

Well, my old rig died after 4 or 5 years, so last may I went and bought something cheap to satisfy myself for the time being.

I currently have a D820, and ATI x1550. How do these compare to the regular midrange stuff out there today. I don't game much, I mainly encode videos and stuff. Mainly I just surf the web and listen to npr and bbc radio. What would you do? I was thinking af upgrading the video card (agp), to an 1950, but was thinking af upgrading everything else except drives. What would you do?

If you don't game much, yet mainly encode videos and stuff, then you are better of with a new CPU, but that means a new mobo as well. Your d820 is not only a very slow CPU, it's also a spaceheater that's racking up points like no other household component on your energy bill Depending on how much you have to spend, you want a c2d or even a q6600, which really kicks ass in encoding. You of course have to buy 2gb of ddr2 800, which costs 50-60$ nowadays. So, 70-130$ for mobo, 160-260$ cpu, 60$ for ram.
