We get it. People on your small island like crappy beer and get angry when other people far away make things they like and then drink them
Its not so much angry its just this ridiculous redefining of terms because you dont understand them in the first place messes up stuff thats been around for ages.

You've cocked up the whole political spectrum with your misunderstanding of the term "liberal" please at least leave use with our beer tasting like its supposed to rather than some liquidised dessert for pre schoolers.

At the end of the day you can absolutely call whatever you want liberal, or champagne, or stout. That doesnt mean that thats what it is though. Those things have history, and cultural relevance. The names mean something and you lot fannyarseing around and totally missing the point doesn't change that.

Stout doesn't mean bitter it means dark and strong. Imperial came about for beers that were shipped to imperial Russia and, over time, it changed as a way to denote higher quality, bigger flavors and higher ABV.

So unless you only drink Imperial Stouts you get shipped back to you from Russia you don't have much of a leg to stand on when complaining about beer nomenclature and trends changing over time

Yes. Stout is absolutely supposed to taste of jellybeans and marshmallow!

Bullshit. Its just for people that, for some reason, think its trendy to drink stout but dont actually like the flavour of stout.

I mean why don't we just let Pepsi add some alcohol to their swill and call that stout? Its dark and fizzy.

Names mean something. Definitions matter.

If you want to make an alcoholic drink out of marshmallows and jellybeans thats fine (apart from the infantalising of your palate but thats your problem) just call it what it is. I'm guessing that people dont because then it wouldn't appeal to the bearded hipsters that care more about the glass that they are drinking out of rather than the providence of the liquid in it.

It's ok. Tastes cheap, but not as cheap as the $13 price tag indicates. It's a good bang/buck spirit when there isn't anything particular you want, or don't want anything special.

Again - stout does not have a set flavor. You might like a bitter stout and that is fine. But the world is not beholden to WelshBloke's view of what he wants a stout to be. The long standing tradition of sweeter Belgium stouts shows that your view is not even historically accurate except perhaps in a small regional area.

TBH I'm not sure I understand your need to insult people who like things that are different from what you like. What harm is it doing to you? Can you no longer find any stouts you like? Or do you think that language and definitions are immutable and never changing? (Because they're not. But don't take my word - take the word of a Dean and English Language professor at a well known University)

There's a difference between different types of stout and making what's basically an alcopop based on stout.

I'm fine with people liking what I dont like. No problem at all if people want to drink some candified concoction that hides all the interesting aspect of a drink, thats up to them.
But when you do that its no longer the drink you started out with. If you take a glass of water and dissolve lots of jellybeans in it would you call it a glass of water still?

Nice, I'll have to check it out and see if my local place carries that brand. If you read the last couple of pages in this thread I just started to get into Cognacs/Brandies and so far I'm really enjoying them.

Don't set your expectations too high. Like I said, it tastes cheap, but is drinkable, which more than you can say for whiskey at that price point. I'm a little ambivalent with brandy/cognac. It's good, and I like it, but it seems a little one dimensional to me, especially compared to scotch. I've had a few good brands in the not ridiculously priced category, and they don't taste amazingly better than the cheaper stuff(Paul Masson not included). My goto is Asbach Uralt from Germany. It's cognac in every aspect but fact. I'm pretty sure it's made with French grapes, and aged in Limousine oak, same as cognac. It's pretty good, and ~$25/bottle.

I've been exploring the very bottom end of the brandy spectrum, and they aren't so bad. E&J, Paul Masson... Still have a couple more to try. E&J XO is kinda interesting. It's a vanilla bomb, and that puts me off of it a bit. I can't believe it got all that flavor just from the wood. I think they've added flavor to it, which isn't something I appreciate. It comes off as... Synthetic? Maybe not that, but less artful. Like someone had a good cognac described to them, and they hit up the chemistry set to replicate it never having tasted the real thing. It's definitely easy drinking with a good, but unsophisticated flavor. Worth trying for <$15. Really, at these price points, the bottom end stuff is worth trying, cause why not? Even if they aren't drinkable neat(haven't found that one yet), you could use them as mixers, or to cook with. Hard to lose.

Not drinking yet but very happy. A local liquor store had a couple of these in a 'build your own six pack' spot so I asked it they had any 4 packs. Turns out they ordered a case for someone who left them hanging and had been trying to get rid of them for a long time. Guy offered me almost 40% off just to take the last 16 off his hands

Sipping on some Diplomatico Planas tonight and overall it is just ok. I'm not a huge rum drinker but this one caught my eye with its claim of coconut and banana flavors. I can taste the banana in the beginning but very little coconut and it has a harsh finish.. I was hoping to discover something similar to Siesta Key Toasted Coconut Rum but it isn't even close.

That always sucks when you have high hopes for the taste based on the description but it doesn't come through at all

Yeah, although trying to find a suitable replacement that I can find locally to Siesta Key Toasted Coconut Rum has been a challenge I accept the challenge readily and will continue to try rums that claim to have the same flavors.

It's a sacrifice that I am willing to make for the better meant of all of course.
