I overclocked my cpu to 1200 mghz, now my computer won't boot up at all, won't even recognise my floppy, I tried to clear the cmos, but still nothing, I checked my cpu, and it's fine, what else could it be?

Asua A7V133
AMD Thunderbird 1000 mghz
3D Prophet 2 Ultra
Phillips Acoustic Edge

how did you check your cpu? In another computer? What did you do to overclock? FSB? Multiplier?

Try taking everything out of the mobo except for CPU RAM and vid and see what happens. What excactly happens when you power up now?

I checked my cpu in another computer, when I power up, just the fans work, and I overclocked in the bios, increased the multiplier,
and I tried taking everything out exept the cpu ram & video, and I tried using another video card also.

Did you go straight from 1ghz to 1.2ghz? You should have gone up in 50 mhz increments. Hopefully nothing is fried. Try clearing CMOS 1 more time, setting jumper to normal mode, then push the power button 10 times or so.

I first went to 1100, then 1150, ran fine, then tried 1200 and thats all she wrote, I tried resetting my bios several times, and pushing on & off several times, and nothing, I must have fried something in my motherboard, do you think it's fixable?

He said he tried it in another computer and it booted with his CPU fine, right snidy100?

Just to be clear, there's now screen response what so ever? No beeps? No hard drives spinning? Just fans and that's it?

I know it's silly, but double check all the cable connections and make sure not of them are loose.

Also, if you have multiple sticks of RAM, try one at a time and see if one of them might be bad.

What HSF do u got? Someone eariler today mentioned a brand (tisol?) that had a sharp edge that cut Mobo traces easily. akingoff HSF, u may have cut a mobo trace.

Yes, I tried it in another computer, and tried one stick of memery at a time, and checked all the cables, no scraen response at all, my hard drive light stays on, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything.

hmmm, sounds like you might be on the right track with a wacked mobo then. Weird, I wouldn't think upping it like that would be a problem. The mobo should have handled it fine.

How about taking the CPU, RAM, and vid card from that other computer and putting them in your mobo and checking it out? Maybe even the PSU?

And I assume you're testing all this without drives plugged in. No need for them if you can't even get the thing to post.

Just read something in another thread that sparked a thought. Double check to make sure that all the jumpers on the mobo are in the correct place and seated all the way down.

Also, check to make sure the CMOS chip is seated correctly as well.

I would hope so. You weren't doing anything that the mobo wasn't designed to do...

It would be unfair for the shop to replace a motherboard that was busted from overclocking, wouldn't it?

If your multiplier settings are "jumperless," try clearing your CMOS data and reboot.
