All of mine are in the tin but I have a jar on order so I'll let you know.

I'm sure you've discovered this already but for others who may be interested, with the tins, if you let them burn for an hour or two, all of the wax liquefies. So you don't want to slosh them around for a good while after you put them out. I did that with one - Santorini - and some of the oil from the wax additives got on the outside of the tin. Not a big deal just realize that the tins are not liquid proof.

My faves so far are Havana, Stonehenge and Black Forest. Santorini and Positano are ok but too sweet, in my humble opinion. The one on order in the jar is Stonehenge.

Got the Stonehenge jar candle. Here are some pics.

The last one is a little odd. Not sure why the wax is sticking there but not elsewhere. I'm sure that once it melts it won't matter.

I suspect that the glass is going to get very hot so I hope the plastic around the lid can handle those temps w/o melting or deforming.

I assume you mean when you cap it after burning? It should be fine. BTW, if you aren't aware, you should burn any jar candle til the top is completely melted before capping it. It helps prevent tunneling, but cheap candles will still do it on occasion. If you can't commit the time to make that happen, you shouldn't light it.

Interesting but can you pls explain. What do you mean by tunneling because I did precisely that last night. I let it burn for at least a half hour and I don't think the wax was was completely melted out to the glass.

My guess is because the glass isn't a good heat conductor and because this is a much larger mass than the tins, it takes a lot longer for the heat to propagate.

The candle will burn down the center leaving wax around the wick. Aside from being wasteful of wax, it gets to be a pita to get it lit when it's low. It tends to happen more with cheaper candles.

Ah. Thanks. Maybe that's why they started making the tins - since ALL of the wax will liquefy over a couple of hours.

I'll keep an eye on that. Right now it's been burning for about a half hour and there's an asymmetric ring of wax around the glass. So it looks like it's melted more than last time.

In the past, with these sorts of candles like say devotional candles, it tends to burn down the center but once the wick is below the top level of wax, that wax melts and drowns the wick. I hope that doesn't happen with these.

It figures. Metal conducts heat better than glass. Makes me concerned about what surface I place it on. Could be enough to discolor, or bake, said surface, perhaps.

Do you find these overpowering? I'll probably go with Stonehenge next. Thanks for the pics and recommendations!

They can all be overpowering, especially in a small enclosed room. I don't close any of my rooms though so even burning one in the bathroom is not asphyxiating since it can exchange air with the hall and adjacent rooms.

Plus I have forced air HVAC. So all of the air gets cycled through the furnace/a-c and the air filter.

I really like stonhenge but I think my fave is Havana. It's so hard to tell between the 3 I really like. They're all really nice and the scent lingers for quite a while.

The nice thing about burning candles in different rooms is that when you go from one to another, the fragrances are different enough that you still notice them and don't become habituated - nose blind.

edit: oh, btw, I let the jar candle burn for about an hour and liquid wax had just about reached the glass. But the glass was barely warm to the touch. I think as it burns down it will absorb more heat but right now, it's much better than metal for touching and moving around while burning.

Would anyone following this thread be interested in a candles and fragrances thread? It would include scented candles, incense and I guess could also include things like air fresheners.

I like the stuff, but I'm not really an aficionado. For incense, I get nag champa, and candles, I get what I find in closeout stores that I like the smell of. I have been wanting a candle potpourri burner. I had one decades ago, but I let it run dry and it cracked. They seem to have fallen out of favor, but I find the scent nostalgic.

That's cool. But you're fan if not an expert so like me, you'd probably like to hear about new stuff.

I'll try to set this up later today. Still have some chores to do and errands to run.
