What do I do now?

It's been a while since I last built a computer..

I did my reading, ordered my parts and put it all together. I installed the OS, drivers and stuff, and it's up and running. Is that it? Or is there more I should do?

Do I need to check my bios settings or anything else, or will everything from the factory run just fine? I ran 3DMark and it showed I had one of the slower comparable systems..so I'm just paranoid that i might have done something wrong.

Thanks for the help!

My System:
CPU: Intel C2D e6750
Motherboard: MSI Neo2 FR
Case: CM Stacker 830 SE
HD: Western Digital Caviar SE16 (WD3200AAKS)
Video: BFG 8800GT 512MB OC
CD/DVD: Samsung S203B
RAM: OCZ Gold 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-800 CL 5-5-5-12
PSU: Antec NeoHE 500w Power Supply

I'm running the Intel Stock Heatsink. There's 2 (120mm) exhaust fans on the case in addition to the (80mm) PSU exhaust, and 3 (120mm) intake fans. My CoreTemp says it's idling at about 22-27 degrees C. When I ran 3DMark it went to 34-37degrees C.

Don't know if any of that matters..just trying to include as much info as possible.

Windows updates, install virus protection/anti-spyware software, update them.

What you need to do now is not use 3DMark, but to install a game, turn the details up and see how it looks. This is much more important and realistic a gague of performance than 3DMark!

I did all the updates and installed the virus protection. I'm still flipping through CD's installing games and stuff, and patching/downloading those so I hadn't had a chance to actually play one yet. The 3dMark dl finished first, which is why I ran it.

I guess I'm just nervous about leaving something that shouldn't be w/o realizing it.

A bit off-topic:

If you do not plan on heavy overclocking, you are overkilling with all these case fans. If the noise from them bothers you, a single intake and a single exhaust is usually more than plenty.

On the fans, the stock ones that came with the case are awesome and very quiet. The antec Tricooler fan I put in was not, and that's running on low settings. Overall though, with all the fans its not bad at all - at least for me. I'm coming from using a XPS M170 as a desktop replacement and this is much more quiet.

I wasn't planning on it at first, but now just a mild overclock. Starting reading more about the e6750 and got the got the mod bug. Seems like increasing FSB to 400 will put it at 3.2 relatively easily on stock cooling and voltages.

So I ran home during lunch and did an OC and started up Orthos.

Hopefully, I did it correctly.
- Went into Bios, set FSB to 400MHZ so it's at 8x400=3.2GHz
- Set RAM to 1:1 and Frequency to 400MHz - this means it's running at the intended DDR2-800 speed right?
- Set my pci-e slot to be 100MHz

I left everything else as default - stock timings on memory, stock voltages etc. It booted up smoothly with no issues. I confirmed with CPU-Z that it was running at 3.2GHz. I monitored it for 30minutes and then left it running when I went back to work. 30 minutes in my Coretemp was reading 40-47 degrees Celcius and it read 22 degrees Celcius when I first booted it up.

Those operating temps seem to be pretty good right? The chip has a max of 72 degrees celcius, so I think i still have a very big buffer/ceiling.

Congrats on your new machine!

Have Fun!

Yup, that's everything set pretty nicely.
