LEO - law enforcement officer

it's what a lot of people in emergency services, law enforcement, security, military, etc call any type of official officer.

And to answer your question I'm in SW washington, but have been over much of the US. I've never heard of many of these names before...po-po and such...they must be new. And 5-0 I haven't ever heard used seriously, only in jest to the show.

Not always -- I went for a ridealong with our city police department, and we received a dispatch for a multi car accident with injuries..it took us four minutes to get there -- through traffic, intersections, etc.

"Cop(s)" when referring to city police and "Trooper(s)" for State Troopers. Although, as you will notice from the previous sentence, I tend to call them "police" more often when writing. Not sure why.

If they're employed by my city, I'm on a first name basis with them. If it's elsewhere, I call them officer if I'm talking to them. I call them cops when I'm talking about them to other people. Unless I'm joking around. Then I go *sniff sniff* ... I SMELL BACON! Only dogs don't know it's not bacon! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
