What do you call yourself

It just occurred to me to make a poll like this. I was responding to another post, calling myself a Republican, but I'm everywhere on the map. I also remembered that most americans are actually registered independent (which is stupid unless your state allows independents to vote in primaries, but nobody can make the claim that populations are smart).

Example of some liberal issues I'm for: anti-death penalty, gun-control, free education to community college, subsidized health care (not free or true universal but close), I'm for increased immigration (blind to PhDs, lesser educated as long as it is spread out). I don't like personal savings accounts as part of social security. I don't like GW Bush, though Kerry was worse (what I would have given for Gore in 04).

The list is much longer on the republican side, but you get the idea. Just wondering who else is like me.

Don't really identify with parties much, but I do vote Rep 98% in national elections and Rep about 65%+ locally.

In personal freedoms, very much Libertarian. The government needs to stay out of personal issues, unless it directly involves invading upon another's rights.

As far as economic issues go, I very much lean towards socialism.

Overall, I am very much a Romantic.

As for the poll...I consider myself a moderate, but call myself a liberal when asked. Mostly because I don't want to be lumped in with the current crop of conservatives if at all possible.

Yes, he was quite the individual. His book "Ain't Nobody's Business if You Do" should be required reading for anyone interested in Libertarianism, especially if you're already a liberal. It might open your eyes (as it opened mine more than a decade ago). Not everyone knows that one of my political heroes was a self-help writer and gay man who died AIDS, a martyr to a cruel and inhuman political system that intentionally denied him the care and medicine he needed to survive. Hmm... might change some opinions, eh?
