thanks for the replies. I think my google trouble was because I asked it in the form of a question. "what does BMW stand for."
In Germany, the M-B is considered an old man's car. The BMW is what appeals to the younger drivers. The only M-B that wipes the floor with the BMW is the new SL. Otherwise, the BMW is a better car IMO.What the hell do I care what young Germans think? Mercedes wipes the floor with BMW.

I thought that you'd care what young German's think because you'd probably be the type to own a BMW or Mercedes simply because of its status.

I believe it was supposed to look like a white propeller blade, against a blue sky. It goes back to BMW when they made military aircraft engines during WWI

You have that the other way around son. The Mercedes is the boring car. Just ask anyone from Germany. Most young people won't be caught dead in a Mercedes in Germany.BMW=Boring Mercedes Wannabe

I don't think so. It's the same company. The bikes are made in Germany. It's Bavarian (or the German equivalent). I always thought it was "Worken" and I have seen that but I'm not a German expert. BMW's British involvement is via their purchase of Rover, Mini-Cooper, and Rolls Royce. They also build engines for some of the BMW cars in England.
