In Germany, the M-B is considered an old man's car. The BMW is what appeals to the younger drivers. The only M-B that wipes the floor with the BMW is the new SL. Otherwise, the BMW is a better car IMO.
I thought that you'd care what young German's think because you'd probably be the type to own a BMW or Mercedes simply because of its status.

Wow. I guess we really live on opposite sides of the fence. When talking about luxury cars, IMO, Mercedes takes the cake. I don't like the way lxuury BMWs ride, I don't think the seats are comfortable, and, with some exceptions, they basically all look exactly the same. I personally like Mercedes much much better, but only when considering the luxury lines. C-class = crap, and I agree that lower end BMWs are nicer. I also like the Mini.
Also, about the slaes comments, it's definately true that BMW sells more cars than Mercedes, but that's mostly because they target that $20-$30k mark very well. Mercedes has always sold cars in much higher price ranges, and I don't think their C-class offers much competition.
To each his own I guess.
(Also, if you want to see something that is INSANELY luxurious google the Mercedes Maybach here are some specs:
That is precisely why Mercedes-Benz plans next spring to sell the Maybach 62, a revival of a German limousine of the 1920s. The sticker price ? if they bothered with stickers for such a car ? would be about $353,000.
"It's the finest in automotive engineering, design, and elegance," says Paul Halata, president of Mercedes-Benz in the United States. "It has so many features, I could not show them all to you."
So here's a short list for this unusually long, 18-foot car:
? A 12-cylinder, 543 horsepower engine.
? A trunk and doors that close electronically.
? Reclining rear seats (much like first-class airline seats) with electronically extendable footrests.
?A cooler for your champagne.
?An entertainment system (with Dolby stereo and video screens in the front headrests) that puts opera houses to shame.
As Halata says: "Not bad. Not bad for a car." )
