Someone wanted me to transfer data from a hard drive to a SD card, I bought two just so I can get free shipping. Well BOTH cards appear to be defective. Once the file transfer starts it just stalls after a while and get tons of IO errors in dmesg. Talk about shitty luck. Worse part is I ordered from Best Buy, I could have just went in person but was working so ordered it. Now I have to go through the RMA process which is always a hassle.

You cannot take your order to the store and replace? Pretty sure I have done that. Unless you ordered from some shady third party seller.

Just went through the process and that appears to be an option, so went with that. I didn't figure I could since on the return policy page it said you couldn't. Apparently I just have to show up with the receipt so I'll try that.

So the other more expensive brand SD card I decided to buy seems to be fine... What's weird though is the ones failing on the PC are working fine in the cameras. Going to leave my camcorder on record and just let it sit to make sure but so far so good. This is so weird. I still don't know if I'll want to trust those cards though.

... and I just got IO errors again on the new one but this time the whole rsync job crapped out instead of just seeing dmesg errors. I wonder if it's because my sudo expired so I lost permission... this might just be a fluke. If this happens again I'll just su - as root. That's usually what I do when doing file operations anyway...

Nevermind getting errors again in dmesg. Different ones though. Not IO but "access beyond end of device" errors.

Already did that, I have 2 new cards now and a higher end one, doing it to all 3, no idea WTF is going on.

I guess SD cards don't do well with mass data transfers maybe? But then why would it work with the smaller cards. I pulled the cards out of my camera and I can do mass copy to those fine, it's just that they're too small for what I'm copying so I can't use those.

Err file size limit perhaps? What is the file system you format it to? Rufus can format a sd card fine.
