What happened to Eddie Murphy?

He was nominated for an Oscar award in 2007 for Dreamgirls, so he must be doing something right.

Saw an interview last night, and Murphy stated he was retiring from movies when he turns 50 (He's 48 now) and is going back to the stage.

He was amazing in Dreamgirls, I don't like Musicals but that was a pretty good movie, I thought he pulled his character off perfectly.

as for Chris Tucker & Rush Hour 3, I didn't think it was great, but it was pretty ok, chris made $25 million for the role and I believe the movie did very well at the box offices. Not sure how anyone could consider Rush Hour 3 to be a failure. The worst you could say is the movie wasn't as good as the first.

Back to Eddie, I liked Norbit, Dr. Dolittle & Daddy Day Care were good for kiddie movies, if I was the target audience I would have liked both a lot probably. Funny this thread came up, I watched 48 Hours on Cable this afternoon, what a great fucking movie. I'll admit Eddie won't ever make Comedies like he use to. Beverly Hills Cop 4 might be watchable, if they bring back Taggert I will see it

Other than voice-acting the Shrek movies, his movies have sucked since the mid-80s. The only thing he's been good in is the original BHC, 48 Hours and Trading Places.

Eh, I don't know about all the hype, I don't think he's that bad (is there such a thing as bad hype? Well, you get what I'm saying). I think he's still a great comedic actor. Everyone killed that movie Norbit, but he was actually really good in it (people might have noticed if they actually saw it instead of jumping on the "worst movie ever" bandwagon ). He's just not getting any good roles, no surprise there. Very few good comedic movies in the past decade or so.

I think a lot of it probably came from having several kids himself - I imagine he wants to do projects they can enjoy. Too bad, though - he was on the short list of the best standup comics of all time in his day.

Man that movie was horrible.

I don't expect much quality out of Hollywood's films.
