What happened to Eddie Murphy?

I just saw a commercial for Just Dave and it seems like his trend of s.hit movies continues :/ He used to be good back years ago but it seems like since the 90's (Doolittle) he has progressively worse. I mean shit this is the same guy who did Eddie Murphy Raw, and look what is has become.

Yea but he still pulls large numbers of the black community and older EM fans so his films still make money no matter how bad they are.

Geez he did all the shrek movies. Those weren't that long ago. I believe some other voice acting too. He probably just likes doing those goofy movies once in a while. A lot of kids like that stuff. They have a niche somewhere. No big deal if inbetween the blockbusters that he wants to keep busy. Even if they are weird quirky movies.
