What I want in 2013

My wishes are simple really.

Either HTC needs to put out a phone with the Tegra 4 or Qualcomm 800 (which is a given), and put Ubuntu for Android on it, or Samsung should have Ubuntu for Android on the Galaxy S4. I really want someone to put Ubuntu for Android on a flagship device, I don't really care to have Ubuntu phone, but I want to be able to dock my phone and run a desktop.

Next, I want the Galaxy Note 10.1 to get an update and make the tablet feel like it won't fall apart when i pick it up, I love the software and the s-pen is bloody amazing and useful.

i feel like the note will get updated, but does anyone actually think one of the big vendors will put out a phone with ubuntu? I feel like its unlikely, but I want it.

I just want that flexible screen on a galaxy phone. I couldn't care less about Ubuntu.

I'm going to be getting a $20,000 power cable for my audio this year, in about a few weeks.

I want to see the exact same thing regardless of which device I pick up. That's the holy grail of mobile tech for me.

If you're into that sort of thing, I suggest you read this article:

This guy reviews tons of stuff that can improve the sound quality of your system if you have the money to spend on it. Some of the coolest items include ceramic bearings which you set your cabinets on which isolate your amplifiers (linked), anti-vibration devices which hold your cables off the ground to prevent distortion from traffic on your nearby interstate, and Tiki which improve the Chi and thus the sound reproduction in your studio.

@OP, my ideal device would have BIG.little (or some similar configuration) with dual A15's, a ~4.5" 1280x720 display, one of those nice 12MP sensors Sony has been putting in their cameras, 2gb of RAM, pentaband, and a uSD slot. I think quad A15's is a little silly considering how little multithreading goes on in Android presently, especially in phones, and since I often use my phone as a phone, I don't really *personally* want Linux on it.

For iPhone in 2013, I'm looking for a switch to a SGX600 series GPU and a slightly faster CPU. I'm going to hold my breath for a 2272x1280 4-4.3" display, but if it doesn't happen this year it will happen next year. The rest of the hardware can stay pretty much the same as far as im concerened.

The real change needs to come in the software. I need to see SOMETHING in iOS 7 that says "we're working on it". I don't expect a huge sweeping change but I do expect to see things that are laying the foundation for future sweeping changes. I'm honestly pretty happy with iOS at this point, the two major features I want to see are quick reply built in to the OS and some way to change default apps. Those are really the only two major features I'm looking for.

As for Android, I'd like to see a KLP come out and actually enjoy using it. Even on JB (4.1, last I've used) I can't say I enjoy using it. It's functional but that's just about it. The difference is I actually enjoy using my iPhone.

My biggest things are battery life and a more drop-proof phone. If they can get a phone that will last 3-4 days of a charge with medium use I'd be ecstatic. I want this in a semi thin form factor too. Something along the thickness of the iPhone 4s is fine. Needs to be a 4.3" or smaller screen.

Also really interested in the flexible screen. Hopefully this makes phones more drop proof and better adept to handle impacts.

Very happy with my iPhone and iOS but I am looking for something that adds more to the OS. Change it up a bit or lay the groundwork.

Very interested in the Ubuntu phone OS. I like some of the things they are bringing forward. I like the gesture based menus and can see those coming to the forefront in the coming years.

Fair enough, i think the quad A15's only make sense if you will also run a desktop OS on it, and I personally really like Ubuntu desktop.

I don't really like the Ubuntu phone though, I find the lack of a homescreen unsettling, although some of the gestures look like a great idea, but Ubuntu for Android would hit the sweet spot for me.

that and i really want an 10.1 note with a different case that doesn't creek so much when you pick it up.

Yeah I could see that. It's not my ideal overall OS by any means. I could pick bits and pieces from all of the major OS's that I like that I wish one OS would offer. But I think if you sat down 100 people you'll get 20-30 completely different options.

While I do like having a homescreen I think our real innovation is going to come when someone stops thinking of the OS and the phone in our traditional perspective. It's going to take some outside the box thinking for true innovation to come forward. I don't recall the company that was creating the alternate OS some years back. I think they went bankrupt or otherwise dissolved. They had some interesting ideas that were completely different from those of Apple, Google, Blackberry and Microsoft.

I'm actually really interested in Ubuntu. Thinking about picking up a GNex just to roll with it. Wish there was an N4 image.

It's the only reason I've kept my Gnex. Waiting for February for the official image to be released.

I want a new Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone to tide me over until Project Glass is ready.

Hell, I would be happy if it was just a Galaxy S3 with stock Android 4.3 when it comes out.

But, hey... one of those Google self driving cars would be nice as well. Maybe they can add that as a feature in Android 5

I know what we're going to get: quad A15 + 5" 1080p.

What I don't know is if this second huge jump in CPU power (doubling of cores *and* faster architecture, as in 2011, whereas 2012 just gave us one or the other) is going to actually spawn any new smartphone use cases. (Tablet benefits are obvious.)

I want Google to make Android better rather than worse. Enough with the Apple-style pay-for-storage BS (if you don't like SD cards, make 32gb minimum and 64 standard), additional system bars that eat tablet screen space, and Nexus devices that no one can actually buy. I have the awful feeling that 4.1.2 may be the best stock Android for phones is going to get, and that it's downhill from here. (Tablets have the obvious killer feature of windowing/splitscreening to steal from Samsung and/or MS.)

And I want one "alternative" high-end phone (similar positioning to the One S) that optimizes all hardware specs for battery life. 720p if it helps, 2+2 instead of 4+4/4+1 if it helps, and as big a *replaceable* battery as can fit without ending up with a MAXX- or Note-sized device.
