What is hotfix?

And where can I find it? And why would I need it? And what is the difference between ATA100 hotfix and AGP hotfix?

I did a search on the forums for the hotfix, but most of what I found was some people telling some others to use hotfix.

Would a person with Iwill KK266 and Win2K have to worry about this?

Hotfixes are *typically* OS updates directly from Microsoft. I don't know if any other company officially uses the term hotfix.

I posted a link to the ATA-100 hotfix for Win2K in the OS forum last week.

quite a few companies are now using the term 'hotfix' to mean a quick and small bug repair. They are often considered urgent.

Microsoft use them, as does PGP.

if you want microsoft ones, go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and see if there are any you need in product updates.

ATA100 is the max rate of data transfer from a device, usually a hard drive. This is only in bursts for short durations, so I'm not sure it makes any discernable difference (but I got it anyway!?!). Your mobo must support this, and so must the hard drive, and even the cable connecting the two. As you are asking this I'm assuming you probably won't have these things. ATA100 is often a topic because W2K didn't support it to begin with, and neither did SP1. Since then MS have brought out a Hotfix, which will keep us happy until SP2s official release!

AGP stands for Accelerated Graphics Port. Don't know what the fix is for on this. For more info on both, search the thread Thom supplied. I'm sure many will be able to go into much greater depth on both these subjects, but have a search around first as the infos out there.

This ATA100 issue is a Windows 2000 issue, right? When the computer boots up, it says UDMA 5 next to the hard-drive. That means it's operating at ATA100. So, when Windows 2000 is loaded, if you do not have the ATA100 fix, it will revert back to UDMA66. Is that correct?

Where can I get SP2 unofficially? What's the difference? Is it like a beta version? It's not risky to install SP2, is it?
