What is posting/post LED's?

Everyone is talking about computers posting @ bla bla bla MHz, can some give an explanation?

Now I read a thread, where someone was talking about post LED's?

Is it a device you put in a serial port or what? DaddyG?

POST LEDS are a cluster of leds on the motherboard that using code combinations tell you what phase of the POST the system is preforming. This is very useful to dertermain problems with the setup that may cause the POST to fail. AFAIK MSI and Epox are the only ones who have this feature. (I'm not 100% sure others haven't joined the band wagon by now) I've found it to be an extremely useful feature.

They are not put in serial ports but are physically located on the motherboard.

The reason I didn't know is because I've always used ASUS mobo's.

The Intel Vancouver and Asus CUSL2 motherboard come with the POST LEDs as well.

What POSTing means is that the board accomplishes the (P)ower (O)n (S)elf (T)est..it makes sure there is RAM, video, etc.
