POST LEDS are a cluster of leds on the motherboard that using code combinations tell you what phase of the POST the system is preforming. This is very useful to dertermain problems with the setup that may cause the POST to fail. AFAIK MSI and Epox are the only ones who have this feature. (I'm not 100% sure others haven't joined the band wagon by now) I've found it to be an extremely useful feature.
They are not put in serial ports but are physically located on the motherboard.
