What is tftp.exe

I'm currently running Zone Alarm and it keeps asking to give access to Trivial File Transfer Protocol. I'm not sure what this is, since I didn't install it. I've run a virus check and it's come up clear. Is this something I should try to remove from my computer? Thanks,

It is a simple way to read/write files to remote server. If you don't need it then you don't want it. Personally I've only used it to upgarde firmware on managed switches.

Well, in general terms, TFTP is a file transfer program that operates over UDP (using higher-level code for the error checking/session maintenance).

It's likely that it was installed on your machine for something like a Router code upgrade, or switch code upgrade, something like that. If it's asking to be a server right off the bat, then it could be something bad; installed to import or export files to your machine without your knowledge.

Check your "Installed Programs" and de-install it (rather than eraseing it outright). Sometimes Winderz goes nuts if it's told to load something it can't find.

Chances are, if you do not know what it is, you do not want it. Uninstall ASAP, and make sure you get up to date virus definitions and whatnot.

it's usually used to remotely boot machines that have their system files stored elsewhere. eg my sun ipc network boots using the tftp protocal
