I have a rather annoying problem.
I can't seem to get 2 PCs networked.
The first PC, 'walrus', has 2 NICs. One (an SMC card) connects to the cable modem, the other (Netgear) connects to the LAN.
The second PC, 'carpenter', has one NIC (Netgear) which connects to the LAN
By LAN, I mean that they are connected directly to one another with a crossover cable (no hub)
Both systems are running Win2k.
If I turn Windows Connection Sharing on on walrus, and IP to DHCP on carpenter, I can access the internet on carpenter. BUT... I cant get them to talk. Pings dont make it from one to the other.
I set walrus's IP as 192.168.0.1, and carpenters as 192.168.0.2, yet they wont talk.
When I go into Network Connections, it shows them as Connected at 100.0mbps, as it should, but I can't even get them to ping each other. When walrus trys to ping carpenter, it times out, but when carpenter tries to ping walrus, it gets an error code.
This makes me think that the problem lies on carpenter. I have tried a different NIC, but got the same symptoms. All TCP/IP settings are at default (apart from setting the IP). There is no firewall (that I know of) running. 'route PRINT' seems to display all the right information about routing
I am honestly at a loose end, if anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
