also, japanese culture and media are different from ours, kids are more exposed to perviness and at a younger age. heh

For me it's not close... Princess Mononoke. Great music, creative scenery, amazing and complex storyline.

Definitely Kenshin (the OVAs are especially awesome), Evangelion, and serial experiment Lain and Oh my goddess.

Oh my how can they end the whole keshin thing with the second OVA......

here is why i see anime as messed up and not cool:
-everybody has 5" wide eyes
-everybody has a crazy hair style
-everybody can fly
-constant flashes cause seizures
-the characters move as if they are infront of a blue board all the time......since it shows them moving and doing actions where the background is just a pattern of blue swirls you have absolutely no clue wtf is going on
-every episode of dragonballz i have ever seen (about 5) was just 30 minutes of fighting with no real plot or goal to the story
-when people cry they have huge mouths, the camera goes all screwy and they cry buckets of water
-they move in an unrealistic way, i mean that they just sort of teleport around
-to show frustration, happiness or disappointment they close their eyes and start glowing for some reason

i don't get it....

I love the early Gundam series... the later ones became more unrealistic and unreasonable (eg. Gundam Wing, which would a fighting robot need HUGE wings on it's back?).... But the early ones ROCKS!
