What mic are you using?

This could be moved to peripherals, but I thought maybe in here is best since I am looking for a mic specifically for PC gaming. I don't plan to use this for recording music, etc.. Purely vocal inputs.

I used to have a cheap Logitech mic that seemed to do the trick, but Google tells me most enthusiasts use boom style, more expensive mics. Is this really a huge improvement? I worry if the mic is close to the keyboard it will pick up my Cherry MX keystrokes more than my voice. I also worry the cheapie $10 Zalman clip on will sound like crap or straight up break/not work.

I see I see.

I'm actually now debating whether or not I want to get the Cloud Revolver full gaming headset, or maybe grab a cheap pair of HD668b's (have AD700's right now) and try out the ModMic? I worry the Snowball, which is highly recommended will pick up the loud mechanical keys.

I heard some good remarks about Sennheiser's gaming headsets. There's the older 363D and the newer 373D. I went with the split setup simply because I wanted a high quality microphone, which isn't as easy to get on a headset mic simply because of how small they are and the overall cost. (I also wanted a USB interface for my computer, so it worked out.) The one thing I kind of wish that I had was wireless headphones. I don't need them often, but when I'm making a quick bathroom break while in queue, I want to know when the queue pops! (I use Sennheiser 598s right now.)

Ah, now you have me looking at wireless headphones... what have you done!?

I don't think the Snowball will pick up keyboard sounds since you have to speak into it to get the best audio levels. The further you go away from the mic, the lower your levels go. I saw it somewhere on youtube in a review.

I am planning to go on Snowball, but right now I have the one attached with my Manhattan headphones!

I just place my headset on the table and have its mic face me. Works well enough for TeamSpeak.

AntLion Omni

actually too loud; super-sensitive and superb definition. this is in fact, the top lapel mic for gaming. the glue + magnet thingamajig actually works decently, but i would prefer a hard-wired option.

I actually have a couple of friends that use these on their instruments.

VModa Boom since it works w/ my current phones, otherwise I'd be using the AntLion ModMic. The ModMic is better imo.

Sennheiser PC360 here. Mostly because I wanted a good headset with a good mic when I bought them and options like the modmic weren't really well known at the time. Now though with so many other options available I don't think I'd do the same thing again. I'd get a separate mic.

For now I bought a cheap desktop stand mic for like $8. It won't be great but it'll be enough for now while I get my set up going.

I'll then probably get either the modmic or snowball. I'm slightly leaning snowball, because my g/f sings and I play piano, we might start a channel on youtube or something in the future. That mic will be much better for picking up clean vocals for streaming/recording purposes.

I use steelseries siberia v2 as a headset/mic. It's actually got really clear crisp audio and doesn't pick up my mechanical keyboard much at all. The wife has a pair as. We both enjoy them. I believe I am going to grab her a pair of Arctis 7's though from steelseries as a Christmas present. Other than that, I can highly recommend the snowball mics and tell you first hand that they do not pick up mechanical keyboard sounds at all. I know several people with them and they all love them.

Where did you place yours on the desk in relation to mechanical keyboard?

I always wear them on my head. I do have a really nice surround sound system as well, but when I am on skype or gaming, I generally use headphones. Well, if I am playing a game that requires communication I wear them. If I play hearthstone or d3 or something along those lines, I just use the speakers. But ya, the sibera headsets are absolutely amazing and well priced as well.

Sennheiser 650 with ModMic v...1 or 2 I think (long ago). I'm planning on getting the new v4.0 Omni with mute.

I used the cheap $10 one last nice in CS:go. It picked up my gf in the other room when she was on the phone... extremely sensitive, but they could hear me well.

I use a samson C03 condenser microphone. Got tired of the shitty headphone mics that either had poor quality or ended up breaking off the headset.

So I picked upped a cheap but good reticulation boom swing arm that I could mount to my desk and mount the microphone on. Works great and everyone says I sound like I'm in some sort of studio room the first time they hear me. Bought it when last one sale for like $30.

If you don't want to buy a reticulation boom arm then the samson meteor mic would work well to sit on the desk.

How's that work with positioning with respect to your monitor? I.e, how do you position the boom to sit, but still fully see your monitor? Off to the side? Most set ups I see, it's always in front, but this won't work for me because I've got a big ol hunkin' monitor.

I attached it to the desk on the back side of monitor. It goes up and comes back down to rest just slightly above my monitor pointing down. I don't even see it when I'm playing unless I look up. This was the arm I bought.

Like I said it connects to the desk behind my monitor and goes over the top pointing down. Never notice it and the microphone picks up very well.

Mine actually gets in the way of my second monitor a bit, but it isn't that bad. When I'm not using the mic, I'll just push it up a little bit, and I can see the second monitor just fine. I could probably just leave it up there and it would pick me up just fine. When I'm gaming, I don't use the second monitor that heavily, so it isn't a big deal.

I don't care for desktop mics so I have a lapel mic: Olympus ME-15. It works fine in Windows and whatnot, but it doesn't seem to work in Battlefield 1 and now that I think of it, I'm not sure it did correctly in The Division, either. So I dunno... frickin microphones. I don't like the headphone-type mics because I already have a nice pair of Sennheiser headphones so I'm not getting some shitty pair just for the mic.

I should just duct tape a desktop mic to my Sennheisers and call it a day.
