I don't care for desktop mics so I have a lapel mic: Olympus ME-15. It works fine in Windows and whatnot, but it doesn't seem to work in Battlefield 1 and now that I think of it, I'm not sure it did correctly in The Division, either. So I dunno... frickin microphones. I don't like the headphone-type mics because I already have a nice pair of Sennheiser headphones so I'm not getting some shitty pair just for the mic.

I should just duct tape a desktop mic to my Sennheisers and call it a day.

Get something like this?

https://www.amazon.com/Samson-Meteor-Studio-Microphone-Chrome/dp/B004MF39YS

Goes on sale for about half off regularly all the time. Just sit it on your desk somewhere off to the side and forget about it. Thing picks up very well.

Hmmm. The thing I don't like about desk mics is the picking up of sound coming from my speakers. I normally play sound through my home theater speakers which sit behind me like 6 feet or so; do you think that mic would pick up the sound in my case?

Or maybe you should just use a mod mic, since it is basically that in a more elegant solution...

You keep your good cans and get a really good mic.

Modmic for me as well. Using on both sennheiser HD 598 and Momentum "Over Ears" . The noise dampening is actually very good. I can watch movies or have music playing very loud on my theatre system, and won't get any complaints it's too loud. Keyboards won't be a problem at all.

Any open mic is going to pick up speaker sound. That would be the point to use either push-to-talk or get a headset.

Most good headsets with a boom mic will give you pretty decent quality audio recording, and by decent I mean above about £40. Don't fall for the £200 headset memes whatever you do.

I do have a desk/boom mic for recording podcast style which is great quality for a reasonable price, the Snowball range. But that's overkill if you're just communicating over in game comms or across a 3rd party comms like Teamspeak. The bitrate of live chat is typically much lower than the quality a desk mic will record at.

Idk if I said on the first page but I'm using my AD700's and I purchased a Yeti. Getting it today and I'll be asking my online peeps how it sounds. Pretty pumped.

LOL let me look to see how much the one I just bought was. Don't put it paste me to return mine and buy it for $10 less if I have to. Times be tough for lil Z1ggy.

LOL I did something similar with Amazon. Bought Doom 2 collectors edition when it went on sale for $60. Then 3 days later it was $50. So did a return and rebuy thing. Then 3 days later again it was $40. Another buy and return. Then it dropped to $28. Yet ANOTHER buy and return. All because Amazon doesn't just want to give me credit for the lowered price or refund me the difference. But hey it was free shipping every time... Not sure why they chose a ridiculous policy like that where instead of just giving me $32 in credit, they'd rather spend $100+ in 2 day prime shipping costs

They must have such a massive deal with UPS such that they don't lose on shipping, or they've marked up most stuff due to mass buying of product, they can afford to lose money on shipping.

FWIW, everybody is extremely impressed by my voice now due to my Yeti. I got the blackout version, which matches my battle station nicely. I have blue painted walls, but everything else in the room is black/grey/red, including the LED underglow I will be installing tonight under my desk.

I don't chat much anymore in game, but I have a mod mic and a pair of headphones. Works well enough, although I am sure the Yeti is much better in sound quality. I almost got one when I was shopping for a mic but went with the cheaper mod mic.

If you want a headset for voice comms skip all the bs overpriced gaming headsets and go from something simple and reliable like this Plantronics: https://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-64339-31-HW261N-Binaural-Headset/dp/B0001V3AVY

These things are used by millions of people daily in offices and call centers every day. I stole borrowed mine from a job about 6 years ago and it's still going strong.

Used those as well. Uncomfortable as hell too. Do they work? Sure, but I hated wearing them for any length of time even back in the day when I worked at a call center.

My setup is that samson mic I have on a boom arm attached to the back of my desk and hangs over my head coming up behind my monitors with no problem and a Vmodo M100 headset. Great comfort, great sound quality (both in and out) and outstanding durability.
