what mouse pad?

With two feet gone, and other on their way, I think my Logitech corded optical is about ready to leave me. I think the MX518 will get put in its place.

Currently, I'm using an old Mead notebook for a mouse pad. This probably has something to do with the feet wearing down, so I want to get a nice pad for my new mouse. It's hard to find more than "this pad rocks" and "this pad sucks", with the occasional, "this pad screwed up after X months, and..." when searching for actual info on mouse pads. So, I come to you guys.

What I want that is like the Five-star: easy, but not slick, gliding.

I like the mouse to almost feel like it's floating, without too much friction, but also not air-hockey-table slick. For non-gaming, I want the pad to have enough grip that I won't need to worry about moving the mouse when pressing side buttons. On the notebook, that's not a problem: the texture allows the mouse to be firmly planted down with only minor pressure.

Also, it can't be big, or noisy. The space on my deask for a mouse pad is exactly 9" wide. Anything wider simply won't do. I'd prefer one that won't require replacing my mouse feet, if possible, but am not 100% against it.

Any recommendations?

..Id just get a cloth pad..and maybe add some teflon tape to the mouse feet for less friction.

btw, the func 1030 is 11" by 8" so you'll need to rotate the pad for it to fit

If it's a plain rectangle, that would be fine.

If it were made smaller, I'd try it out, just for being such a unique pad.

(a) I haven't a free one like that, and (b) My wrists are rather important. A mouse pad needs:
[*]to track well
[*]to not screw up mouse feet too fast
[*]to feel comfortable
The third is the most important, overall, but many pads are comfortable (such as my notebook ). However, with so many new surfaces over the last several years, I think it's time to try some dedicated solutions--why buy a $30-$70 mouse (I'm still thinking of going with the mx518, but if I get a bit more money to spend, I may splurge for the mx1000 ), but use a $5 mouse pad? It's like making a $2000 gaming machine and saving money by using a 17" CRT.

I dont' think the ICE mats can be that great,, it's GLAss,, put ur mouse on the monitor and try that,, it's not so great, the feet gets caught

i have a small space for my mouse also....any good ones like....12x12ish?

The Icemats are textured, not smooth. The ones with frosted glass are supposed to be noisy, but the new ones look pretty good.

I don't know bout u,,, but after using the Ripper XL (14" x 17.75") I just can't go back to Dinky pads, and like i said before,, all the plastic Pads are VERY VERY similar to the 5 star Notebook. plastic grinding against plastic, same either way it will definitly ware ur mouse feet more than Cloth,,,

And how does textureing glass help make it smooth, dosen't that just turn into sand paper???

lol, sand paper....but no, textured glass should (note: SHOULD) make it more smooth as your mouse would have more texture for it to sense/detect.

Noooooo. TRUST ME, all of these "specialty" mousepads are a joke. I know it sounds nice right now "Ooo...I bet that mousepad is reallllly nice" but there are much better ways to spend your money. Just get a decent cloth pad, it is just as good if not better.

Again I totally agree! You cannot get much smoother on the mouse bottom then a cloth pad, there is NO hard abrasiveness on the mouse ?feet?, it glides nicely and tracks optical mice superbly due to its finely weaved fabric.

But hey, go ahead and waste your money on some expensive pad that isn?t even required.

ALSO,, NEVER buy them Teflon mouse Feet crap,, those things will wear out like in 2 months depending on how heavy/much u use ur mouse.. MOUST FEET = SCAM

u can just use tape.. it seriously works about same

And, IIRC, it is teflon tape, for the mouse feet. Not actual feet that you add.
