Not critisising, i figure ethnicity just has more relevance over there -- with the notable exception of a few cities, here it's just english, scottish, welsh, indian/pakistani, and a few others -- but it does come across a bit like you're trying to imply you're just visiting for a generation or ten, like you're trying to distance yourself.

That's very true. When I go see my uncles and cousins in Ireland they all call me and mine American (or me in particular "cowboy" LOL) same thing when I've been to sweden. I am american so is everyone else born and raised here... but veitnam was raging when I was born so my mom insisted she register us in Sweden at the time so if another war like that broke out we could repatriot if we choose and avoid a draft. Course it's not much of a worry anymore but back then it was. I don't even speak galic/swedish and thier culture is very foriegn to me as I'm sure the culture of every country claimed here is foreign to everyone else. Bottom line is we are all american at this point.. even most first gen!!!

No offense ppl but is this how you fill out the the "nationality " cell in visa forms for example?

Where your are born, who your ancestors mated with or what language you speak does not determine your nationality, basically your passport does.

WASP.....which basically means that my bloodlines are so mixed that it doesn't matter. I am at least 1/4 czech though. My Dad's grandparents did Ellis Island. My Mom's side was probably original Mayflower or something. We've got her side's bloodlines traced back to some friar in England in like 1300 or 1400 something. I'm a direct descendant of Daniel Boone, like probably half of this country....that man-whore.
