When I say toy car, I am reffering to things like power wheels. something like this.

While I was going thru some body cam videos on the Law&Crime Network YouTube channel I came across a footage where a drunk man gets arrested for DUI for driving a Power Wheels while drunk. The police officer explained that the law did not take into account the purpose of the vehicle, and only required the vehicle to be powered by electric, combustion, or steam, for DUI charges to be valid. The officer states also the only exception for a drunk person is for a drunk to operate a bike in the state.
(Audio starts at 5 or 6 second mark)

Are there other states with similar laws? I understand it is against the law in any state to operate a motor vehicle on the road without any rear and/or front lights. Did this police officer over reach his bounds and arrested the drunk in kidy car for no reason, and no such law exists? Did he do the right thing?

I remember seeing people get DUIs for driving lawnmowers on the road too. If a bike doesn't count a hot wheels shouldn't. I've been hit by many at full speed, not nothing, but not that big of a deal either.

Eh, guy was clearly trying to get around drunk driving laws. And while those aren't going to do damage to others the issue is he's putting himself in danger because regular cars are not going to see that thing very well. He might be able to appeal, but I don't have a problem with police cracking down on this shit (or if he was drunk and riding a bike, similar issue). Let's be real though, guy will probably pay for a Diversion or something (although something tells me that might not be an option due to repeated drunk driving in real cars, hence him resorting to this).

Oh, FFS, its OP just linking that fucking YouTube channel. Great, just what we need 100 threads of this shit. Are you getting some weird kickbacks for linking this or something like they're pivoting to running some Andrew Tate like pyramid linking scheme?

No, I am not getting any kickbacks. The purpose of posting this video on this thread, and posting those other videos on the other thread are two different reasons. Even if I never had posted the other thread, I still would have posted this specific thread, as I actually wanted to ask this question regardless. I can't ask questions about driving laws and post what first made me think of the thread question, on this forum or something?

Maybe the DUI charge doesn't stick but the officer successfully detained a drunk person who was being a clown and a clear danger to society.

To begin with, he must've been driving recklessly at a high rate of speed so as to have drawn attention to himself. I think if he just kept his elbows off the pavement, spread his knees wide enough so they weren't obstructing his view and kept two hands on the steering wheel instead of having one hand and then the other clutching his favorite alcoholic bev he wouldn't have gotten pulled over like he did.

I wish you wouldn't. Now I'm going to have nightmares about millions of drunk people driving toy cars down my street and a Parliament of Cops camped on my lawn in deep philosophical discussions as to whether to arrest or not. My God, man, it could turn out to be millions of Trump supporters driving to Washington.

Never drives drunk and stoned in his wheelchair. Nope, never. Really, he's never driven around his neighborhood drunk off his ass in his wheelchair. That's not him on a nice summer evening driving that electric wheelchair around smoking a joint either…
