What plant is this?

I live in California (as of a few months ago). The house I'm renting rightnow is surrounded by a variety of fruit trees. I've identified most of them, except this one

What is it?

They are everywhere in Cali. I believe they're edible. No idea what they're called though.

Well if you're out in the mountains and see red fruit, I hope you don't just go "Oh gee that looks edible!"


On the other hand, CA has nice wild strawberries, raspberries and gooseberries up in the mountains. But if you don't know what you're eating, don't.

ha, true true. I grew up out east, where things aren't as tropical.

I was under the impression lychees don't grow in California... is that incorrect?

Not lychee. I've seen 'em before, but don't know what they are (except that they're not lychee).
