It must be an Athlon. Durons usualy do not get near 1.4Gb without a good (watercooled + peltier?)cooling.
Get the latest Sandra, chances are that the problem was resolved.

I tried WCPUID3.0b, Sandra and they all displayed mine as Duron.

The Abit KT7A BIOS (and boot-up screen) also displayed it as a Duron!

Anyone know what's the problem? I want a TBird but not a Duron 1.4GHz.

Anyone know what is the problem ?? I suggest you to change one if you have the warranty card and the receipt.

Check the cache information.

If the L2 cache is 64kB, it's a Duron
If the L2 cache is 256kB, it's an Athlon

well, check during boot how the BIOS identifies it. also check the l2 reported there. If it all says duron, benchmark it. if it performs like a duron, check the core.

That is a Thunderbird processor, according to the stepping/mask information. 6 4 2 is a thunderbird. 6 3 x is a duron. I don't know what is with your cache information though.

If nothing else, you can open up your case & remove the hsf and look at the core. It will say either Athlon or Duron on top. If it's an Athlon, you need to rma it because of defective L2 cache. If it's a Duron, that is the highest overclock on 1 of those I've heard of.

I think you have an old BIOS and the CPU is a Athlon MP 1.4GHz or even TBird 1.4GHz,but the BIOS doesn't recognizes it properly so all the apps get wrong code from BIOS.

Thanks for all the replies.
I'm sure that I have bought a TBird 1.2GHz 266FSB. CPU pics here.

The Abit KT7A recogize the TBird as Duron (in BIOS and boot-up screen).

My TBirs appears as a Duron no matter which speed it is at!! Either overclocked/underclocked or at original speed 1.2GHz.

Am I getting a faulty chip, wondering what's it actually, some kind of engineering sample?
