What should I cook?

Ok....tomorrow morning at 11:30am, we're having a huge office party...there's supposed to be about 70 people showing up to this event. I know there will be a lot of food there already, but not many people are bringing meat type dishes. I didn't sign up for anything cause I figured it would be this way.

I'm gonna head to the store and buy some groceries to cook for the group. What should I cook tonight? I could do pot roast or something like that...there is already to be hams and a turkey there. Any suggestions of good cheap meat or main course type food that will feed an army?

Edit: Holiday foods are preferable.

Buy precooked meatballs. Mix grape jelly and BBQ sauce 50/50. That's how the caterers do it....

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't thought of that and I've never made "meatball sauce" before. Jeeez that sounds weird.

Any other suggestions? I've got 2 crock pots and many serving dishes just because I like to cook. I figure I might hook em up with a few different things just to impress the cute gals in the office.

Pot Roast would be great. Dunno if that would impress the ladies There's always make chili, soup, or something liquidy. What WOULD impress the ladies, however, is a nice dessert.

Tom: Thanks for explaining the distinct taste of meatball sauce. I always wondered what that was :Q

Perhaps try some sort of pasta that you can bake in a big casserole type dish in the oven.

You can then reheat it when you're at work tomorrow. (or prepare it the night before and throw it in the oven at work if you have one)

This one sounds pretty good.

I say you make some Pizza. Get some pizza dough from Trader Joes for 99 cents, and some pasta sauce and toppings, and you are all set. It comes out great and the cooking time is only like 13 minutes.!!!

I dunno. I was thinking of a tomato sauce as in spaghetti sauce.

Do you cook often?

what about something fairly simple like a good side/appetizer? Who says you need to make some huge roast or something?

Here is something I think is easy. Different types of bruschetta.

You can toast some bread with some olive oil and parmesan and some herbs. Real bread like a nice semolina, not wonder bread.
Then make toppings on the side like a pan sauteed tomatoes and basil and garlic, maybe another with some sliced portabellas and vidalia onion, another with some finely chopped italian sausage and some red and yellow peppers, etc. When you are done cooking the toppings you can put them in a container for reheating the next day. The next day you can microwave it at your office to heat it up and place it on the pretoasted bread on a platter.

There are tons of different things you can do like this. If you want more details and instructions, lemme know.

My real concern is that everyone else is bringing side dishes and this is supposed to be a luncheon type event. Plenty of deserts, drinks, sides, etc. Just no real meat. I figured I'd try to hook everyone up with a real dish because that's what's needed most. I like that idea though....yummers!

Ok....I just got back from the grocery store. Couldn't find the pre-cooked meatballs. I checked for the pot roast stuff and it was priced too high for the size so I gave up and bought a 12 pound turkey. I have 8 and a half hours to cook this thing.

o man... meat balls.

Anyways for the turkey season BEFORE you cook. Rub a nice herbal mix (rosemary, thyme, pepper, sea salt, etc) on the outside. Also rub/brush some olive oil on the skin. If you have a baster you can make a strong (lots of spices and fairly salty) stock on the side, then take the baster and inject that flavorful stock into the meat of the turkey. All that is very little effort but ensures a very flavorful undry turkey.

good luck and have fun tommorrow

perhaps you could use one of them crock pots to make a stew or gumbo. Or you could make eggplant or chicken parmesan. THere is some trick to it according to my brother.
