What should i do?? I want to upgrade my computer, i've got
a PIII 533Mhz and an Asus P3V4X Motherboard. There a two things i can do:
overclokking my cpu
buy a new cpu
I don't want to buy a new motherboard only a new cpu if nessacery!!!
Buy a P3700E Slot1. I remember read around that it's a good one for OC in P3V4X, can go up to 1Ghz with no problem. I have a P3V4X mobo too, and planning to get myself one.
A cc0 P3 700e will get you 933Mhz guaranteed, 1GHz more likely than not. And you should upgrade your ram to 256MB if you have less than that. It makes a BIG difference.
Ruudje.....just remember there are NO guaruntees when over-clocking , too many variables , that being said a lot of folks are having great success over-clocking the ccO stepping 700e.
Small point. You don't need to get a slot 1 version. You can get a FCPGA version and (high quality) slotket instead. This is advantageous in that it gives you more cooling options than a slot 1 version will.
definitely try out how far your processor will go.
More often then not the best upgrade investment when processor has reached 600+ is a new graphics board, Not a new processor.
The p3V4x ( I have one) is not ideal for a slot 1 processor overclock since it for some insane reason tries to use deafult voltage at tweaked speed for an insant when booting before setting the one set i bios. Puts a cap on tweaks in many cases.
If one uses a slot adapter however this can be remedied by setting the voltage on that instead.
