Ok there are the two processors I'm looking into getting... why should i spend 170some more to get the toledo over the 3800 one?????

Anyone have a reason why I should? I'm on a budget of 1300 including getting a new monitor, case, all stuff inside case...but i have a OS and a mouse and keyboard lol

if you are going to overclock, get the 3800+
if not, get the 4400+ (1mb L2 vs. 512k) and faster clock speed @stock

you can overclock all s939 CPU's including the X2 3800+ and 4400+.

you will not need loads of fans .. although if you wish to increase volts and speed you may wish to buy a better Heatsink and Fan (plus Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste )

and with regards to overclocking, if you have the right equipment i.e. good enough hardware, its a piece of cake .. and you will have this forum to help you along you way.

What is your current or old PC running, specs wise ??

I ask this because, the X2 3800+ at stock will probably be a big improvement, and the 4400+ is only 200Mhz faster along with the (combined between the two cores) added 1Mb of cache, and depending on your old rig either one will probably be a massive improvement.

Also down the line if you do look to OC, you will find that you will easily be able to reach 2.4/2.5 with the X2 3800+, probably on stock volts (aka stock heatsink fan).

I would recommend the X2 3800+ and spend the saved cash on either a better LCD/CRT monitor, or better graphics card

3800+. Even at 2Gigz, the A64 will be super fast at alot of things. You won't feel slow, and you'll thank yourself for saving the extra money. Buy an Ipod nano with the extra cash (with sudent discount of course).

Make sure you go to the bathroom before you turn it on or you may pee your pants when you see how much faster everything is compared to your old PC.

IMO right now, 7800gt is worth the $50-70 more than the 6800gt plus its newer technology and will last for a good 2-4 years but it depends on whether of not your gonna be gaming half the time or not. i know your on a budget, i have a couple of friends like you right now that want a new computer and money is a big factor in choosing parts. Anandtech just did a article on a mid-range pc build for $1500. you should take a look at that. heres the linky

IMHO.. if you want a gaming pc, you should get a cheap mobo with the basics and spend the most on CPU, and graphics card. Memory is memory (relatively). Just get PC3200 speeds. You don't need expensive ram with great timings. It's not that much of a difference. You're better off getting a higher clocked CPU and/or vid card.

If you decide to get the 6800GT, don't get BFG. They are problematic... do a search on this forum. The eVGA and XFX seem good. If you can afford it, go with the 7800GT.

I got my Antec Lanboy case a few years ago for about $60. It's a great case. I wouldn't worry too much on the case. Just do a search and find one that's cheap with good reviews.

I don't know about ram heat spreaders... mine came with them.

One last note. you said your budget was $1300. What do you have on your list so far? It sounds like you're going to run out of funds fast if you go with the X2 CPU.
