infinte baffle baby...there is no substitute

Wrong. There are plenty of substitutes. Infinte Baffle aka Acoustic Suspension enclosures require HUGE amounts of power, relitively speaking.
A properly ported (tuned) bass reflex gives a smoother response with less power. A labyrinth enclosure develops even lower frequencies.

Check out ANY pro- sound or studio monitor enclosure. Most of them are Bass Reflex.
There is a studio in France where the designers built a Labyrinth UNDER THE FLOOR. They drive 2: 36 in diameter subs with a 10KW Class A amp EACH.
HAH! Now that brings new meaning to the term "Boom Box"

With the proliferation of Hip Hop / Rap stlye of music, manufacturers have even shifted the Bass Frquency contour (or 'Q") from 100 - 120 hz down to 30 - 50 hz. That is a more whole octave down. This is why speech sounds funny when listened on the radio. Our voices do not reproduce anything near that lower range, thus requireing a drastic re-eqing of a system that will be having Voice and music played through it.

To answer the question, get a 10 or 12 in subwoofer and place it in a corner of two adjacent walls to allow the room to act as the enclosure. This is what Klipsch did with the KilpschHorn.

< old fart sound guy for MANY MANY sound companies and Bands since 1973.

actually the advantage of an IB sub is that it does not require huge amounts of power and that you can bring the driver to full excursion using minimal amps. I recommend you do some more research on what an infinite baffle sub is ... then come back

an IB has totally different power requirements than an average Acoustic Suspension enclosure. In order to effectively model an IB the volume of the enclosure approaches infinity...so there is no loading of the driver as it is in the sealed box...and the power requirements are therefor much lower.

Pop quiz.
If you place a driver in a sealed box with a box volume of 4 times the speaker VAS, what do you have?
